Being more on topic, Steven Universe's board artist are to blame because they cannot stay on model. The animator just go by what they see in the boards for an episode.

Anime looks good but limits a lot of its animation with static stills. It can have more style than actual animation sometimes.

But in all honesty /co/, we cannot argue that Anime gets to throw more at the wall to see what sticks. When it comes to cartoons all the networks want is the next big thing and try to copy each other. We may be slowly starting to change that, Netflix and Hulu want to appeal to niche demos, but while anime can be full of slice of life school girl moe garbage, it takes a lot of chance we don't get to.

this whole thread is a shit hole but let me add something.
the drawings in SU can be pretty sloppy. wether the boarders are to blame or the animators in korea im not sure.
this isnt to excuse any side but fanart always brings more liberty to design in stills than in animation. Considering you have to board it+it gets revised+it gets send to the animation studio theres more chance of the drawing looking fucked up.Specially because every drawing has to be continued with another one for movement.
But with fanart its just one still, so you dont have to worry about movement and draw in any way you want.
