Bought a Wacom tablet about six months ago so I could learn how to actually draw without spending a metric fuck-ton on materials. Shadows are a bit sloppy, and I had a lot of trouble with the hair, but this is the first thing I've done that I'm willing to show others. Working on my figure drawing now so I can eventually draw without relying so much on references. Long term dream is to make comics and animation, emphasis on the long.

Reposting webm from last thread that archived too quick, this is a shot for a longer animation. It's kind of like that shot from the Samurai Jack intro, but I'm also going for an atmosphere that's kind of hard to put into words. Uncertain, maybe?

I've put real thought into the various stylistic elements of certain animations and cartoon-style sketches I'm trying to emulate (stuff a lot less surface than Jack, this was more a coincidence than anything). Maybe that's just a defense mechanism for my form being shit, I don't know.

Trying to figure out what to do in terms of youtube and original animation.

I wanna do something with repeat characters that I can reuse via rigs, but all the stuff i've thought off ends up being episodic and story driven so it's more TV esque and would require too much drawing/animation to make one episode, and there would be 4-6 month gaps between each thing so any audience i gather quickly would lose interesting waiting because it's youtube.

So... something I can do and make in a month or less.

I've been looking at los kassos, hellbenders, leo & satan, explosm. Looking for other examples to as to what to make.

Get depressed for awhile and allow it to pass and if you return to drawing despite the depression phase, then you know that you strive to draw even if you're not good at it and can't get rid of that passion in you.

If you don't return to it, then drawing probably wasn't as big in your life as you wanted it to be and might have caused you more depression in the future because your competitive side was overriding your passion.

I'm not sure but I was thinking the navel. It's a convenient location for it to come out of and apparently crabs have their abdomens folded over that way so it's not massively out there

Having it come out of the bum would be both a bit too lewd and a bit too silly for a biped. Alternatively I could go with the mouth or the wrists but that would also be kind of silly

Well, aside from the animation quality which I think you know already needs work, I think the voice acting and comedic timing are pretty good.

I'm not really good at critiquing a comedy style piece like this since it doesn't always need good quality animation to work but you still might want to consider doing less tweens and more frame by frame movement. The head turn toward the camera for example could have been more than a single frame change with more inbetween, though I am not sure how much that would add to the humor. Also it could just be me, but the greens you use are really bright.

Appreciate the complements dude! Just made it public. Only reason it wasn't was because since, as the video said, it was only meant to be a test for a longer short since I'd never really done a narrative animation before. Once I wrap the live-action short I'm shooting, I plan to start on it, and hopefully it'll be a bit more complex.

Well to be fair I'm redrawing one of Budd Root's Cavewoman paintings. I'm not tracing, but I'm drawing from the image as reference. The goal to emulate and capture Budd Root's style. I have a lot to work on, and I definitely need to go over the image again and get it right. I agree that the left arm needs work.

In terms of Cavewoman covers I agree with you. The other artists covers and work is shit. It'd be like other newspaper comics artists trying to draw Calvin and Hobbes in their style and pass it off as Bill Watterson's. It comes off as fake and takes you out of it.

I understand that Budd can't (either due to a lack of time, finances, etc) be the sole artist for every story and cover. However, the stuff outside of Budd's work just doesn't work as well. Budd's work is pretty cheese in its own right, but it has some sincerity to it. A lot of work and effort goes into it and you don't get that from the other people's stuff.

The only exception would be Frank Cho since the guy is a professional in the field.
