I don't see why everyone is complaining about the pacing this ep. It wasn't perfect, but it was good, and the juxtaposition between the battle and meditation was interesting. The mother is probably making a return in ep 10 given that the VA is credited for her lines, so it's not as if she just disappeared either. Every episode is only so long, and there are only ten episodes; Genndy couldn't afford to spend long spans of time on everything.

Jesus Christ, the amount of people watching this show just to hate on it is insane. Is your time really so worthless that you can spend it viewing children's cartoons just to get angry?

It's amazing so many people here still don't understand Samurai Jack at all.

Look, SJ's plot was only really just a basic platform for Genndy to put cool shit on screen. That's it. SJ was always dominated by rule of cool than anything of substance.

No, really. The show is just an excuse to put cool looking stuff on screen, "kino" if you will. SJ is just there to look awesome. It's not deep although it seems that way sometimes. It's shallow spectacle.

The best way to enjoy the show is to just take it as it is. It's always been mostly about the visuals. Yeah, it sucks that it isn't really deep but we should stop expecting it to be. The reason why the latest season seems to be shitting the bed is because people are expecting the wrong things from it and never "got" the show at all.

Just enjoy the memes.

I think the pacing issues of this new season really stem from the fact Samurai Jack was really meant to be an episodic series. It's a jarring transition for a series that never had any direction with its plot to begin with.

Counter-productive and spiritually wrong. The episode showed Jack's rage getting the best of him as he killed innocent animals. Besting his range in a peaceful way through meditation was the most satisfying way for it to be done. Having a big macho fight would have undercut the theme of the episode. Everyone's missed the point of the Ashii stuff, it's not just her development, but Jack's at the same time. As he explains the evil of Aku, he is also regaining his purpose. Saving Ashii and redeeming her, helps redeem himself. The meditation scene is a visual culmination of the journey Jack's been on since the start.

Okay now this cartoonist hero worship is reaching cringe-worthy levels. He's a good writer and animator mostly, a combo hard to come by in this industry. Yet he's not flawless. Dexter's Lab was pretty forgettable outside of Justice Friends and the occasional anime parody. No one remembers anything about SBT other than it was cancelled and the booty shaking scene. Genndy is popular mainly because of the high ratio of waifus per show and the anime references, which is all you really need to do to win the internet masses over.

I think the point is that you don't deal with someone who has haunted you for 50 years the same way you deal with someone who just came from nowhere.

It was logical to expect the internal conflict of jack actually being more complex and taking more time, when in reality it was the opposite. The actual fight with Mad Jack was far more engaging and entertaining than what we've got.

The old Samurai Jack didn't have much of a plot, but at least it was able to nail down a consistent pacing and tone. Crucial situations and episodes weren't rushed or treated with irrelevancy; everything felt solid, despite the episodic format and narrative cliches.

The new season can't even nail down a consistent tone per episode, let alone the slow yet atmospheric pacing that the original series was known for.

The final season just slowly devolved into a total disaster after episode 3.
The sudden tonal shift in episode 4 was alright, but most passed it off as being the potential "bad episode" for the season. Then episode 5 came along and further cemented the concerns with rushed pacing. Both of these issues continued with episode 6.

But episode 7 was the final nail in the coffin (IMO) and the telltale moment that the new season had jumped the shark due to a combination of OP criticisms, Ashi's rushed arc and the fact that the horseman ended up being a load of fucking nothing but another symbol for Jack's sudoku tendencies.

The new season just reeks of wasted potential and it really should have been 15-20 episodes instead of 10 in order for them to pull it all off properly.
