ATLA comics, are they good?

They're really bad. All of the cast feels out of character in them.

I agree it's really to early to judge but it's definitely annoying that they're going with the "Korrasami was there since the start" angle and not acknowledging they're just stumbling into this relationship and are still trying to figure out how to click together, which is how Bryan initially framed their relationship.

Also in one of the panels Korra looks like she was drawn by the guy who does Attack on Titan and its irrationally bugging me. I don't think these comics should have been colored, the artist's style looks better in black and white.

I don't think retconning is actually the right word, but Korra says something about how she felt Asami was the only one who really understood her and that started with the race car ride in book 1. The problem with this is that it completely ignores that Korra NEVER goes to Asami with her problems, even in books 3 and 4 (except for the letters but we only hear one of them and not Asami's response). If Korra felt like Asami understood her, why did they never talk? Why did all two of Asami's attempts to get Korra to talk about her problems fall flat?

We've only seen one part of the comic so it might be too early to make such calls but it gives me a bad feeling.

To be absolutely fair in Book 3 they were spending most of their time together and one of those instances was Korra talking about her grievances to Asami.
And I wouldn't see it as a stretch to say that Korra feeling that Asami might be the only one that can truly get her, but at the same time she's too insecure to adress it until they can actually talk. And with the whole Mako thing having hung over them for the entirety of Book 1 and 2 it was kinda awkward.

When Hiroshi gets outed as an Equalist it's Korra that tells Mako that he should be with Asami and when Asami finds out that Korra and Mako kissed she went and called bullshit on Mako. Izumi always looked more like Azula or his mom to me. I never saw much of Mai in her design, but it doesn't matter since I believe he already said in an interview that they'll still end up back together and she'll be her mother anyway. But whether Bryke really don't know how to stop inserting shitty romance or Yang is just portraying it in an even worse light, Maiko is somehow even more unbearable than it was in the show.
