Some techno-god invades and fucks up all of earth's tech with magic, requiring all the tech-people to start over from scratch in designing things from the bottom up because magic stops them from programming in Javascript or some shit. This causes Marvel's tech to become a whole lot less sci-fi-y, because it's really hard to design a flying fortress when you don't have a hundred years of technology to improve upon.

All of this is just to make sure that Tony Stark now can't make his spandex-tin supersuit with magic repulsors because the technology it was built upon no longer works, and instead he has a rudimentary bulky suit that requires an entire team to launch and which runs out of fuel in hours, like in the Ultimate universe. Because that was the best change that came out of the Ultimate universe, fuck those assholes who got rid of it around Ultimatum.

Also I guess Tony will have a personality crisis as so much of his life is bound to the level of technology. He'll feel like a caveman and try to fight the techno-god, but in the end have to concede his defeat.

I feel this is bait, but I'll bite.

Take it from someone who actually collected and read Iron Man. The series has never been good.

As for the topic of letting him die. Heroes need to die and not deaged forever. Tony was in the Vietnam war for god sake, he got rebooted twice or more, because of that Arno doesn't even make sense existing as is. Kill of heroes and replace them with characters who make sense. Not PC garbage that is only being used to instantly grant a person street credit without having to actually make a creative new character. Even Falcon becoming Cap works well.

The direction of Iron Man has treaded down the wrong path for a long time when it comes to his political stance. You can't have a character based on Howard Hughes to change so radically because of each writer wanting to put their own spin on the character. If you wish to do that, you should make an off world version and write a closed end story of them. But then again that makes sense.

You want to make a good Iron Man with Tony? Reboot him to the core.

If you want to make the character go in a whole new direction kill him off and work with Arno who has little to no history other than 2020 and make a whole new character.

Well OG Tony is back. Sorta died, but Imortus or Kang snatched him from death. Escaped during Secret War. Basically just an older Stark living under a false name running a network of companies researching prosethetics, facial reconstruction, and all that jazz. Is also doing powerless exoskeletons and stuff to protect soldiers. Still has his guilt complex and really hates NuTony, but quite forgiving to the Avengers and curious about RiRi. Also multiverse shenanigans are why Iron Man is adopted in current continuity. Reality doesn't like how their are 2 Tony's.

Has an antagonistic role to RiRi, but it's mostly him trying to kill Stark and trying to be a mentor to her and try not to have her be a child soldier. If I could write the Marvel U. It'd be different. Current Thor would be Ragnorok who would have been raised by Odin in grief after Thor actually died during Fear Itself and resides in Mjolnir. 1) Tony Stark buys an offshore oil rig and coverts it into a new Stark Tower. Over the course of the story it expands and brings in new emploees until Stark realizes he just unintentionally founded an independent city-state in international waters. He falls in love with the place and is prepared to fuck up anyone who messes with it.
2) revamp his rogues gallery. thin out the chafe, gather up the ones who actually have gimmicks beyond just 'my armor can do everyone yours can, but has my nations flag on its ass'. They'll attack him one after the other, then tea up, then the true big bag who master minded the big bad will be fought in a big gay finale. Its formulaic, but it works. 3) Tony is an industrialist. Tony is a futurist. Tony is a transhumanist. Rather than just throw those words around, properly integrate them into both the text-a written and the themes, how those traits influence people's perception of Tony. When was the last time a comic showed someone who had benefited from something Tony had invented and was grateful? A blueprint scribbled on a napkin and sent to the AI-controlled factory is a idle distraction for Tony, but when it hits the market that can mean the difference between an early retirement and being able to keep putting bread on the table for someone crippled in an industrial accident. The number of cyborgs in the world has surely risen dramatically thanks to Stark Industries. That's worth exploring.
4) get rid of Bendis. get him off the fucking book, get him off any book that has Tony in it. Find someone much more well versed in both scifi and hard science to take over

Bring back the Superior Suits as a new antagonist.

Make it Tony's Venom, only It isn't resentful of Tony for abandoning it. Instead, it wants to help bring what it believes to be Tony's greatest dream come true: Upgrading the entire human race into a cosmic superpower.

To this end, it uses a modified version of the Extremis 3.0 app and symbiote DNA to create a virus that turns people into techno-organic monsters.

The suit reasons that Tony would do the exact same thing if he wasn't constrained by his company, the Avengers, and general accountability; and when it eventually succeeds, Tony will thank it.

There are currently four Iron People: the Infamous Iron Man Dr Doom after turning over "a new leaf", the Invincible Iron Man Riri Williams chosen by the AI stark to be a new Iron Man and Iron Kid/Lad Nathanial Stark(who will also was have been Kang, Immortus due to time travel) and Iron Man 2020, Arno Stark the biological son of Howard Stark who was turned into a super genius in the womb by an alien probe was in hiding till the probes death.

The Infamous Iron Man is arrested by Captain Marvel on behalf of Shield, because even if he has turned over a new leaf, he is still one of Earth's Most Wanted for, you know, everything. He initially resists, but accepts this path on the condition that he is allowed to continue his good works as part of a super-plea deal. Shield accepts, he pleads guilty to the charge of being Dr Doom and becomes leader of the Thunderbolts.

Then Shield screws him over via legal bureaucracy.

Iron Man technology becomes shield owned propriety technology, with Iron Man armour becoming standard use for shield teams and drone-armour becoming part of normal military operations first in america but soon round the world, generating massive profits for Shield.

Meanwhile AI Tony accepts this and keeps training/mentoring/helping Riri, who has more grounded adventures fighting villains and stopping disasters. Maybe do something with multiple copies of the Tony AI, maybe bring back the sentient iron man suit.

Then original Tony wakes up from his coma. He looks around at everything that is happening. And he decides "this is stupid".

Original Tony sets himself up with Arno as an underground superheroic Anti-Shield, lets call them Secret Works, with a focus on technology as applied knowledge that cannot be "owned" , by necessity open source, available to anyone with the PERSONAL knowledge to make and use an iteration of it.
This is largely in opposition to Shield, but also things like manufactured obsolescence or making personally fixing certain broken or under optimized devices illegal (a la john deere tractors).

Under this he is still Original Tony and has great personal struggles with his deeply held beliefs in the necessity of right wing ideals with the utter lack of that in modern government and politics. How because he sees things this way there is no "correct" or "good" path open to him under a corrupt failure of a government with enough media influence/influenced enough by the media that whoever comes along next, even if they project a radically different image, will actually by necessity just be more of the same people, who do the same things, who make no change despite their promises.

Then the three of them link up with The Ultimates members after their team was dissolved in the Civil War 2, form the Secret Ultimates and go about stopping the First Firmament and fixing the timeline.

This would take a few years.

This leads to a universal reboot and a New Firmament, a Seventh Universe.

All superheroes age and change and can die permanantly, legacy heroes have meaning as new heroes come and grow in prominence, some taking up the mantle of those who came before. In this universe . So Peter Parker is like sixty years old and has two daughters the older Mayday and the young Annie, both with Spider-Powers, Miles Morales was recently bitten by another radioactive spider, Logan has started aging due to adamantium poisoning fighting his healing factor and his clone Laura has taken up the name Wolverine, there was no civil war so everyone who died did not, there was no Time Travel X-Men so thats still all the same.

So Tony first became Iron Man in 1963, is now like sixty or seventy something years old and recently discovered he was adopted and has a brother, Arno, who was lets say cryogenic ally frozen till the Rigellian Probe could be defeated. And now Arno is becoming Iron Man as it comes up to 2020.

Riri is still around, but with no AI Tony to guide her, does not become an Iron Man, but another different Armour based hero.

Now all of his bleeding edge tech is up for grabs and every 2 bit supervillian with an engineering degree is trying to replicate his newest armor while the inhuman villain seeks to destroy everything Ironman has become at a conceptual level. His headquarters becomes hacked and the interior defense mechanisms are rearranged to see Tony as a threat to be extinguished. Tony has to rebuild. He goes full analog and starts to rebuild a suit of armor from the ground up. He's travelling across the world, mostly because he's on the run and is forced to keep a low profile from the hundreds of villains who want him dead, as he slowly tinkers a new suit made out of an old truck until he's built up the strength to face the inhuman villain and take his life back.

The inhuman villain would also be a complete parody of modern marvel heroes. Overly reliant on social media, flamboyant, arrogant, conceited, etc

So here's my revamped pitch:

Tony Stark wakes up from the dead coma thing he's or whatever and he hates what he sees. While he was gone, he's been replaced by a younger model (Riri). Worst of all, the guy who replaced him was himself. Or at least a copy of his brain. Point is, Tony's not feeling too good. Especially when it seems that a new child prodigy in power armor sprouts up every other week (Moon girl, all the side characters in Wasp, etc.). Stark enterprises has become entirely self-reliant and has been in the best shape its been in years now that they aren't being held back by a maniac in power armor. So he quits being Ironman. The world doesn't need him anymore. Captain America comes around his door and gives him the typical speech about how you're never really irrelevant and that America will always need a hero whose willing to help, but Tony pretty much blows Cap out of the water by saying that shit never really changes with him around. Tony Stark's status quo is entirely built around Tony Stark. And he's horrified by this. He's horrified that he doesn't care about the life his AI mind thrust into danger with Ironheart and that for as much as the world's "changed" nothing really's different.

The AI spares Tony the shame of losing and begins to upload himself into Tony's brain. Thinking there must be a twist to all of this, the AI creates a copy of itself that it leaves in the Ironman suit it was using to play chess with. They both are caught in a fiery explosion as hundreds of miles away the real Tony presses a self destruct switch on a monitor for his LMD

Tony walks from the match as the "victor" but in reality nothing has changed. He's still forced to be Ironman by his own personal obligations just as much as was forced by the AI. He hasn't won anything in the end of the day aside from his own life
