You know, I realized.. in the three original Wallace and Gromit shorts they always had a villain with a silly character design: the box robot with fleischer-esque gloves, penguin with a hand glove for a hat, and pic related whose robot revelation scene still haunts me to this day.
The tone in these shorts is able to portray something more ominous, adding to the fact that the music was absolute kino.

i forgot all about this...i used to watch the three shorts over and over again on VCR as a kid, absolutely loved them. i never saw the later stuff like the movie but the original shorts were really fun & charming
