I thought Batman 21's opening was one of the greatest openings ever in a comic.
It's equally suspenseful, intriguing (What's the significance of the hockey player? What's the deal with Saturn Girl?), fresh (Batman watching a sports game???), and funny (Batman casually playing with the button).

As far as elseworlds go, Flashpoint was pretty great in terms of the departures it took. The main story may have been crap, but the setting was pretty cool so if they retcon it being destroyed to give it a place in the multiverse I'm totally okay with it. Maybe chill out a bit.

Only because Bruce got his ass wrecked with the Speed Force. If you go back and look at it, it was decompressed to hell, and really didn't require the entire issue to depict what happened in it. Personally I found the second issue much better, and as someone who liked the Thomas-Barry-Bruce connection spun out of Flashpoint and started the New 52, I'm actually really excited for this issue. So respectfully, In my book The Button started good, and has only gotten better with each issue, if of course this week's Batman lives up to my expectations.

I am saying in terms of exploration of what the concept of an Elseworld can be, something that takes grand departures like Flashpoint, beats the shit out of something like Speeding Bullets or the Nail. Hell, even Red Son beats the shit out of Speeding Bullets despite being a different exploration of the exact same concept. Flashpoint just takes such departures that the side stories demonstrated were rife with great storytelling potential. I like the prospect of it having a place in the multiverse and not just being a setting that was used once.

They went back in the past after having a conversation about the button. You may not have enjoyed the issue as much but it ABSOLUTELY moved the story forward.

Point A: "Thawne found dead next to a bats with his shit pushed. What is going on?
Point B: Cosmic fucking treadmill and we're meeting Thomas fucking wayne.

This isn't even a valid complaint. I don't understand how you could read those issues and have THAT take away. part 2 didn't have the intrigue or eeriness but part one literally did nothing but start a story they could have started in one page.

And again, I liked the pacing, I found the first issue a joy to read. But if this is a four issue cross over you can't decompress 2 minutes into 20 pages and act like the story moved anywhere.

All that happened was the button hit the mask, bats called flash, thawne kicked his ass and then died.

How can you say it moved the story forward when that could have happened, less literarily, in four pages.
