Yes. Make it about a Rogue Trader crew going in grimdark Star Trek adventures

>>
>>92000301
Honestly, I don't think so. I love 40k and the universe, but I think it's a little too far removed from what animators are used to. I mean, there are plenty of great writers and animators out there, but nobody that has really tackled a show like this before, the whole "There's only war, life sucks and the nicest guys in the universe are 8 foot tall, onyx-black skinned space-nazi's."

I think season 1 would be a bit shitty, but if the writers are good, season 2 could be pretty sweet.

I've heard mixed things, but the biggest complaints aren't with the gameplay but with the Mood and Aesthetics of it. It feels too bright and clean for 40k. Also Imperiumfags are throwing shit fits because Gorgutz won Soulstorm.

>but the biggest complaints aren't with the gameplay but with the Mood and Aesthetics of it
I'm about half way trough the campaign and this is complete horseshit. Sounds like Chaos fags are just pissy because they have to wait for an expansion.
>>
>>92000301
It could work if it focused on a new inquisitor or a deathwatch kill team.
>>
>>92000301
I have dreams of a gritty Gaunts Ghosts series; think berserk, but more 40k like (and not anime). Actually, forget Berserk.
But something that dark, that gory.

Gritty soldier scifi animated series.
Get the people that animated those Spawn cartoons in the 90's.
>>
>>92002380
I think GG's because it can introduce new people the hopeless future of the 41st millenium so well:
You get the IG, rat tag bunch of underdogs that have to claw their way back from near extinction and their hardarse commander. You get introduced to various other wings of the Imperium, including the Inquisition, Navy, Administratum and other useless bureaucracy.

You throw in the Astartes fucking SPARINGLY, and from the POV of the ordinary guardsman, so that when the inevitable MUHREEENS spinoff is made their godlike repuation is already earned, already mythic.

GG's face basically every enemy faction at least once, and they also have to face the enemy within: the corrupt nature of the Imperium itself.

Save the MUHREENS for special occasions; would make people that much more hyped when they got their own series. Also, since these stories would be from the pov of ordinary human guardsman, all Xenos factions are already scary as fuck and are a good intro that gross menagerie.
>>
>>92000301
I think the problem is that for it to work at all it'd have to be super high budget. The armies of the series can be millions strong just on a single planet. Animating a single battle would be a monstrous task without a lot of copy/pasting.
>>
>>92000301
No, because barely anyone actually gets what 40k was supposed to be anymore.

It started as 2000ad style darkly humorous sci-fi where everyone was a dick to justify your dudes fighting your friends dudes. But now people take it so seriously and think it stands for something other than justifying cool models.

This isnt to say the more serious parts dont work, but its gotten to the point people have forgotten its intended to be occasionally goofy, over the top fun.
>>
>>92002582
A horror themed Inquisitor series would be easier, but is obviously out of the question.
>>
>>92000301

Only as stand alone shorts with little to no lines. Focusing on visuals of brief moments in the vast galaxy of eternal war in which each episode is pointless to any greater plot or meaning.

This could be a small platoon fighting in a planetwide war, a guerilla force setting an ambush only to be wiped out by an airstrike, the atypical drop pod strike of marines with no clear suggestion of who will win, an Inquisitor chasing after someone or something.

Emphasis on that the universe is a big place and, whatever happens, you will not be missed.

https://1d4chan.org/wiki/All_Guardsmen_Party

A bunch of Gaurdsman from an unimportant, no-name regiment get saved from the clutches of death and are drafted Into the Inquisition. They serve as a Inquisitorial Goon Squads loaned to Interrogators on their test missions to prove that they're ready to be Inquisitors.

However, some things never change, as it turns out more often then not their bosses and their retinues are incompetent and it's up the Grunts to finish the mission, Gaurdsman style. This usually involves copious amounts of explosives and las-fire and often results in heaps of bodies and property damage, but despite their unorthodox methods, they get the job done.
>>
>>92000301
I think I'd lean to the Rouge Trader concept, especially since the Han Solo/Star Lord type is pretty accessible to audiences & they'd have more narrative freedom than normal IMP/SM/INQ types who would be bound to the "Look a Xeno! KILL IT!"

I'm not saying to make it a hugbox of Hummies Eldars, Orks & a malfunctioned amnesiac Necron as the comedy relief but I think a crew of losers and human outcasts would be palatable for regular audiences.
>>
I'd make a miniseries of the Heresy

She need big lips to be able to handle that custodian guardian spear.
>>
Yes, but it has to be about one specific event, like the hourus heresy or a black crusade.
>>
>>92000301
We face the following problems.
The ethos of 40k does not lend itself to the mass market.
40k has a visual style that would need a high animation budget. Much of 40k art has a lot of details even when not showing large numbers of people.
People would disagree on where the focus should be.
As unpopular as this point of view may be the best candidate for a Games Workshop cartoon is Age of Sigmar, the setting lends itself well to "now we are in a fire and mountain place, now we are on a floating city" it would be relatively easy to justify a diverse cast and the bad guys are obviously bad (Death and Chaos mostly) without any need to go into detail on what they plan to do (have everyone die/cause reality to crumble back into The Warp).
To top it off AoS would have no real problem with the cast being tabled as a force.
>>
>>92007876
We're not looking for what would be easiest, we're looking for what would be more awesome. If we wanted easy we'd just swallow drivel like Johny Test all day.

I want a Warhammer 40k movie directed by Zack Snyder. He has been training his entire life for this and I think with BvS he is finally ready to make The Emperor proud.

Hopelessness, fear, anger, death, pointless death, over the top gothic imagery, christian allegory, and giant weapons and explosions. Grim faced warriors deformed by constant combat and medical tech designed to restore people to fighting condition with little regard to beauty march forever into hopeless, endless combat against a force that is literally infinite and powered by the darkest parts of the human mind and soul.

Yes. Late 80's/early 90's style.

The adventures of a young boy with attitude that lives among Space Marines IN SPACE. Each Space Marine is an archetype, somewhat like the Ninja Turtles. We have the tech guy, the bad boy, the radical sports dude, the serious one and some annoying mascot.

Based on what I've seen on /tg/ this would stop being a cute mascot and could very quickly descend into extra-heretical territory. On the other hand, the Waifu-fags would be eating out of the palm of your hand.

Horus Heresy Vulkan's first introduction is him being sad about the Eldar death camp he's sending them to. He doesn't actually do anything to stop it, but he's really sad when he has to murder a teenage lookin eldar girl who tried to run for it.

Horus Heresy books have a lot of bullshit, like the cargo cult tech worship always being there instead of a thousands of years of degeneracy, but the idea that Vulkan isn't a good guy he's just goblins level SAD pissed me off the most.

If not a Rogue Trader? Then this would be my second choice. Really pushing the differences between chapters philosophies and how they have to act cohesively. I'd keep it like GOTG/Walking Dead where ANY character can die at ANY moment (or get cycled out back to their chapter). Also have the running theme that despite everything they do, they are always second banana to the Grey Knights.
>>
>>92028653
> they are always second banana to the Grey Knights

>>
>>92027609
The challenge with a Cain series is that half the fun is that is a Flashman-esque memoir that wouldn't translate well in an animated series.
>>
>>92028675
No I'm NOT Ward, the whole conceit would be a middle finger to Ward Grey Night Faggotry.

The Deathwatch breaks their ass, gets the job done but everybody still fawns over the Knights & their bullshit.

I desperately want a live action MASH style show involving GIs on a base in the boonies of some megacity on some planet somewhere.

some episodes are just slice of empire life episodes, while others focus on a monster of the week basis: lone chaos marine crashes into the country side, ork raiding party, character accused of heresy, etc.

3-5 out of ten cast members die every season and are replaced with recuits to keep the meat grinder feel.

I'd prefer 3D animated movies/tv show, but with an actual budget.

And when I say budget, I mean Star Wars Rebels/Clone wars or the Dawn of War openings, not as in the 2010 Ultramarines direct to home video movie.

Because that was shit.
>>
>>92029999

I don't get the hate Ultramarines gets from some gits. I liked it. It was a good movie. You can't please everybody, so why do a few isolated ultrapurists think that everyone has to please them as well? They should make an ork movie just to snub "hated it, hated everything, for no reason" jerks.

More like what happens when the parody (40k) of social satire (Starship Troopers) gets portrayed seriously because autists spend more money on plastic crack that way.

Like if suddenly Space Balls was remade as a serious work.
>>
>>92030180
I get the reason why 40k is retarded (and fun).

But the facts remain that it was a serious work, this is a thread for discussing this specific brand of autism, and the idea that my Catholic Space Nazi Brown Bear is not just a dick, but a whiney one triggers me.

It also goes back to the thread in general on why 40k cartoons, for something in syndication, would not work.

Agri-World's are fine ehen you're not getting raided by DEldar, Shrine worlds are good fun as long as show appropriate faith and enjoy Bible fights, and Forgeworlds aren't really all that bad as long you don't mind Cyborg girls and the smell of Oil.

The Only worlds that are truly a Dystopia are Death Worlds and Hive Worlds, and big cities always have a shitty side, so it stands to reason that a planet of supercities would have a lot of really shitty sides.
>>
>>92030369
The book was a serious satire on military life, the movie was full-blown satirical comedy about nationalism and society.
>>
>>92030846
What? Did you read the same book? It also had shit ideas about nationalism, society, and military worship in general civilian life.

I'm not going to say it was fascist, but it was within spittin distance.

Why do you say satire of military life? Most folk got the impression it was anything but negative.
>>
>>92030799
In both Agri and Forge worlds unless you are part of the nobility you are almost certainly a serf-slave with varying degrees of mandatory cult nuttiness. Remember, Agri worlds arn't independent farmers, they are vast plantations that peasants from 1900 russian communities would run from.

Arn't Forgeworlds also hive worlds?

It's all distopia, that's all part of the hilarious GRIMDARK that is 40k.

>>
>>92031096
Where did the Cato meme come from? Is it just from text to speech series?

>>92021770

>>
>>92031148

>>
>>92031148
I believe there mas a Mechanicus novel that Cato was in where he was portrayed as being really full of himself. I think the TTS Cato is just an exaggerated version of that.
>>
>>92030933
I may have misinterpreted it, I thought it was supposed to be ironic satire. In-universe its okay and thus to the narration, but ridiculous to the audience.

Like Judge Dredd. It only makes sense in the context of its own world, not our reality.
