>writing for games
>making videogames

Unless you have a degree in code and certain engineering degrees it's pretty futile to make a game at home and expect it to launch typically. Writing for videogames is a hiring process similar to getting hired for writing news articles and editorials, only replace non-fiction with fiction. People hiring for that kind of thing would be Wizards of the Coast, Marvel, DC, or a videogame studio that liked your specific talent.

I write in my spare time so I don't have any intention of doing that kind of stuff.

I mean, it's feasible with unity being the easiest thing in the world to learn. AGDG are procrastinators but if you have a script, they'll do the first 10% of your game for you if you can assure them it'll be successful. Once the game is out you pester every person with a twitch channel or YouTube channel with ~1000 to ~~50000 subscribers to play it and review it for pay that you'll never give them. They can't pursue payment or sue if they don't admit they were offered pay to give your game raving reviews.

At least the game had a good story.

This.
This is exactly how I feel. I have about 5 volumes of my comic that I made over the years. My characters are very dear to me, I consider them family.

I remember I wrote something before years ago and I saw league of legends release a very similar story to the one I had. That also killed any drive I had into releasing anything

Just exercise a lot and engage in sleep deprivation so your brain pumps you with "stay awake because there's a predator nearby" chemicals. Also eat healthy and try to avoid junk food, it tires you out quicker. It's best to get gum, actually, the sugar helps and because you're using your mouth muscles your brain gets less distracted. Works for work outs too. Also, listen to hip hop and other beat heavy music, the synchronicity it produces with your body makes you more productive. I learned that at an old warehouse job. You can also go the opposite spectrum and go for very long prog rock or regular rock melodies, but the songs have to be long enough and soft enought to not distract you like heavy metal. I recommend Delton 3030, outkast, jurassic five and 80 blocks from Tiffanys for the hip hop, and Mike oldfield, dire straits, 10cc, and pink Floyd for the rock.

I often think, "wow, i want to write about martial arts anime girls", "Definetely going to write a touching story where the best girl and best guy fall in love", and "Theres going to be this twist, where the audience actually think shes dead!"

I still dont know how to execute this panel by panel. Also, its abhorrent weeb shit.

Also, I'm a retard and keep flitting from idea to idea because I sketch one down then want to keep drawing it even though I'm already drawing something else. Then repeat to infinity.

I got an idea last night for a book I would call "Predators" - it's a group of four humans turned into half-human half-animal beasts and use their powers to hunt down who did that to them, as well as struggling to fit in with regular society now that they're freaks of nature. The leader would be a wolf-man, there would also be a tiger-lady, a dragon-guy, and a falcon-girl.
Is my idea too autistic, guys? Send help.
>>
>>92000880
Man, I can't tell you how many artist's comics started out shitty in black and white with no shading that ended with full shading, in color, good anatomy months down the line.

If you keep fiddling around, make a mini-comic or one that has no storyline, just a punchline or shows off a pilot for your idea of the week

>>92000887
It's all about the damn story, anon.
You're giving us a synopsis, which is a start of course, but it's nothing in the big picture.
Take this for example;
"In the year 2080, a ex-con space smuggler buys a casino, only to have it burned down and force him to solve the mystery."
That could definitely be cool, right?
Except it's the plot of Pluto Nash, which is one of the least successful movies of all time.
The pitch and the actual beef of the thing is life and death.
So write something of it. Pitch it later.
Don't think you have a good story. You gotta know you have it before a summary can have any juice.

Look at a webcomic. Any webcomic. Look at the very first strip/page. Now look at the latest page.

At least 80% of the time you'll see a huge jump in image quality. You don't improve for your webcomic. You improve WITH your webcomic.

So... to stop the thread from dying

What would be the best way to actually start a webcomic?
>>

>>92006533
Make a few pages' worth of content, ask your friends what they think, upload it somewhere, get some exposure via twitter or something. From there, just repeat these steps indefinitely (you can stop asking people about the pages beforehand once you're confident enough).

Now, when I say ask your friends what they think, I'm referring to criticism. If they can't do more than say "looks great" or "better than anything I can do", they're shitty critics. If you want something more objective, ask a few artists, or even /co/'s webcomic general if you're that desperate. If you can impress random artists, you're on the right track.

The characters suggest a younger audience, yet the setting might be a little too dark for them. Not to mention the overarching plot is likely to be enjoyed by a more mature audience. I'm all over the place, and I'm still racking my head about what to change, if I should change anything at all.

Is there an audience for a comic about alternate universes, selling your soul to demons for the sake of adventure, RELATIONSHIP DRAMA and gratuitous movie references?

Cute little animals on a journey back home to stop a royal conspiracy, battling eldritch abominations of darkness and chaos along the way.

Basically an (early) Don Bluth movie in comic form, or at least that's my goal.

Because the stories I have in my head are far more entertaining when they stay in my head. To write them down, draft them out, edit them, and bring them into reality would kill them.

It's why dreams are so fun when you're experiencing them and so unfun when you're trying to explain them. They're entirely different experiences; a webcomic cannot possibly communicate the experience of "punching your friend (but he didn't look like your friend, but you knew it was him) because the CIA police thought you two were working together and by punching him you were saving him, and everything was on a under-construction skyscraper from your childhood".

That we forget our dreams so easily is a blessing, not a tragedy. It prevents us from dragging something magical into the world of the mundane.

I'm not making a webcomic because I like my "wonderful stories" where they are: in my head. And when I forget them, it's not a problem, because they've already done what they needed to do.

Pic related. A sketch of a race I made for a silly magitech sci-fi adventure story. A armor-wearing beettle-design race with black faces inspired from the NES Final fantasy Dwarves.

I was immediately told they literally looks like I ripped off characters from the game Spiral Knights. Which is extra soul-crushing cause I don't even play the game and all i can guess is that I saw them once in my life and my mind unconsciously brought it up.

But they do. A victory can be earned, no matter how small.

Of course, if it's just full of depression with little to no positive outcomes it's going to be garbage. Unless it's played for laughs, but that'd require the writer to actually be funny. Spoiler alert, most webcomic artists aren't funny.
>>

>In 4chan of all places.

Don't beat yourself up over it. I brought it up so it's really my own damn fault since otherwise I shouldn't have posted that pic to begin with. It is really all I can do anyways so might as well just laugh and /then/ feel sad about myself rather than just be sad and feel worse, right?

I am sure I have them somewhere so if I find them I may post some, but from what I vague remember:
>The pic I posted
>A race of junkyard lizard nomads with big shells on their backs. Their innards being so hot they sparingly spouted steam from holes in the shell.
>The ones I remember the most were Elf-looking dudes with advanced tech. Years of advanced-yet-dangerous industrialization made them the tech-wiz race of the setting but caused their respiratory systems to be unable to fully breathe correctly off their homeplanet, as well as causing their bods to sprout crystal-like deformations on their skin and hands. They also wore big special collars attached to their necks that acted as respiratory filters. Still looked like boring animu elves tho.
>Humanoid race with animal parts because that's totally not a cliche and constantly used trope, but they grew to have up to four tails i their lfiespan so that makes them totally-original-and-alien, right?
>Manticore looking warrior race. Probably the less embarrassing-looking designs I made if I remember correctly, however nothing unique about them either.

There were others, but fuck me if I can remember. I think I had some amphibian looking group but I don't think i even drew them. Also I had some badly drawn guns and silly looking tools since it was suppose to be a pseudo-comedic thing with over-the-top stuff kinda like Ratchet & Clank but mixed with magical elements as well.

I realize in retrospect since when I came up with all this crap I probably thought it was the coolest shit. Can't even say I was young and dumb.

I want to make a mecha story/VN. Through time loop, there's three characters that each pilot it and deal with kaijus/rogue mechasin their own way. Magitek and stuff occurs, the mecha have a constellation motife, Heracles being the main machine. One pilot would use magic and "force of love", another uses magic as well as witty plans and tricks, the final one cannot use magic but is proficient at boxing and street smart, carrying over that to the mecha. Its also be interesting to have a weird time period, maybe Victorian age with magic but with the mecha. Sounds pretty generic now that I typed it out.

I'm concerned my drawing skills aren't up to the levels I'd like, but it should be enough to not make people bleach their eyes, at least.

I've been entertaining the idea for a while ever since I started writing, but I just don't really know what to do with the comic. I don't think I can fit the actual storyline into a comic layout unless it's whole pages or something.
Because the story is mostly based around almost constant warfare, maybe the comic can portray a much lighter side either off the field or between conflicts, being more focused on character relations rather than trying to put bullets in each other.

I don't really think the story would fit very well as a webcomic unless I did something like that, unless I like, alternate between strips/pages of combat and hanging around at base-camp or something.
>>
>>91994954
You've got the wrong guy, buddy. I don't have a story, I have a setting.

The problem is that it's actually just a pretence for me to engage in escapism by self-inserting as characters in short, circumscribed scenarios that I'd like to act out. There's no actual underlying story that could support it in a way that's interesting to other people.

It's a nice setting though. One day I'll figure out how to actually get stories going.

This made me think
What is the best way to implement music on a comic? Is it a good idea?
I mean, on animation you can have a scene with a certain song and it will last as much as you want it to but when you have still images that gets more complicated
>>
I've already reached point of success that I can be comfortable with where I am in life. While I'm still far off from achieving my true dream, the goal is in sight for me. I work for my local college paper as a cartoonist putting out 2 strips a week. I make 15 bucks per strip they publish, I think. On top of that, I'm starting to branch out and submit more of my strips to online distributors. Even though most if not all of them are non-profit (One of them only got adds in their site as of a couple weeks ago), I'm still getting my name out there. Besides, for me doing comics will always be something I do for fun. I've published a few books but nothing noteworthy, just something I sell to my friends for shits and giggles

So yeah, call me a loser because my art is pretty bad and my writing is pure shit. It doesn't matter to me. I've kinda achieved more than most guys do their entire life and I'm not even 20.

>>92029199 The animatics I had in mind would be slightly more complex than this one to fit with the music, but scenarios I had in mind would be created in sync in Flash.

My website allows flash files to be installed in place of a regular comic. Some songs I imagine would be shorter and fit small loops like this one for maybe a fight or silly scene.

A fully animated music video would be the apex of the music I commission, and will be testament to the work I put into it. In order to keep my schedule on time, I planned to order the music ahead of time and work on it before I reach that part of the story. Otherwise, I imagined putting simple picture placeholders until the bigger music videos are complete.

I believe music will add the extra bit of cinematic experience to the story that most webcomics don't have. It should give the readers something else to enjoy. I believe my comic story might be bland without it. I'm not a good comedian or tragedy writer.
