The movie is Snyder's attempt to make as visually faithful an adaptation as possible, which (IN MY OPINION, NERDS) makes it look real pretty in screen shots but *horrendously* lifeless in motion. Snyder makes all of his character action figures he poses for bloodless take after bloodless take, with the only novelty being "WOAH IT LOOKS JUST LIKE THE COMIC". It's a movie slavishly devoted to a comic book, which means it completely sucks as a movie. Read the comic instead. I don't think it's AMAZING, but it's better than the movie.

Watchmen's great but it being a cynical deconstruction isn't what makes it great. That's part of it. I wouldn't call it the best "super hero" book when it goes out of it's way highlight the super hero's flaws too much and doesn't even allow for the different kinds of heroes the universe's it's parodying have.

It's great for writing quality, character development, "cinematography" for lack of a better word like how all the panels mirror each other and where placed. That stuff is all golden. But that makes a great COMIC not a great SUPER HERO comic per say.

Probably not better on a popular list, but I always considered"whatever happened to the man of tomorrow" a better comic about comics

It's not even that. Watchmen has far more thematic diversity and narrative complexity. Daredevil: Born Again just has Christian imagery. It doesn't have the formal audacity Watchmen does (for real, the amount of visual interest and information nested into the nine panel grid is only surpassed by someone like Chris Ware). You just like Miller's Daredevil because you read it young and you think it's cool. It is cool. It's not great art. Watchmen is.

Thinking anything in any medium is "the best, easily" is fucking absurd. It flies in the face of the very basic truth of the subjectivity that comes with judging art. And that's not to say I think one can make a case for throwing objectivity out but comparing great works as if the metrics used to do so are meant for precision is foolish. There is no precision in such judgements and as such saying "this is the best" is a flawed enough statement adding the "easily" makes it closer to being flat out incorrect.

Starman was pretty great. I wouldn't say it is as expertly crafted art-wise, but the characters are all rather engrossing. I'd put Marvelman on equal footing with Watchman though, both are pretty damn deconstructions of what a superhero is by Moore.

Why does this keep getting memed? It might appear to be more elegant for a film adaption since the alien thing was by its very design an intricate conspiracy with many details. However, the comic goes into great detail explaining Ozy's plan in order to make it sound believable and it has some added thematic elements behind it. Not only that, but the Dr. Manhattan scapegoat plan falls apart with only a bit of scrutiny.

Cape comics in particular are for the most part creatively bankrupt and there's a reason why so many creators of some of the best comics within the genre have some form of dislike for them.

I love the Boys and Ennis' other work but lets not get ahead of ourselves here. Hell, Watchmen blows it out of the water from a visual standpoint alone. The art in the Boys was passable at best and downright awful in some cases with whoever they got to be the backup artist.
