Tons of actors are gay, but Hollywood still has serious issues with actors being open about it. They spent so long building a complex camouflage system for gay actors that they can't seem to let it go even as society has become more accepting. The issue is that the American entertainment industry, for its progressive internal politics, is still an industry that is dependent on the audience they can garner. A lot of America is still homophobic, enough that an actor coming out before they hit it big and can trade on their name alone can genuinely turn some people off from watching the films and TV shows that you're a part of.

You've got some who desire to expand the tribe, expand the parameters of who is part of the tribe, and some who are more distrustful of outsiders and want the tribe to remain more insular.

That's still not an argument for why abnormality is wrong, anyway. Human beings are often flawed in their reasoning; sometimes inward-focused tribalism is foolish.

It's not circular and solving tribalism has always been a progressivist dream that doesn't exist as a solution.

Despite decades of media propagation towards normalization, people still dislike gays, are massively broken up on topics along racial lines and to a certain extent are much worse because old norms that held groups apart were broken down and how that shakes out, we won't know for decades after probably.

It's always a mixed bag. I can empathize with people not in norm for various reasons wanting to fit in regardless of where they are involving intersectionality of their lives but that is never going to change because humans que off of noticeable differences.

"Leopard can't change their spots." kind of deal. And we know that because these problems exist in places that weren't touched by british ideas of rigid racial systems.

That isn't taking into account religion which isn't intrinsic to humans at all that is most telling, as long as people keep coming to differing opinions over topics that create factions within society, there will always be an other.

I am biased though, I am not a utopianist. I don't think there is ever a point where human beings will leave their differences behind. Even if we ascended to beings of pure energy we would keep fighting if for ideological reasons alone. Just look at battles ranging across 4chan. If what you believed was true, there would be a consensus that would form along ideas and opinions, a shared ideological culture.

The issue is how you define race, however. A lot of the reason that races 'stick to their own' is that a lot of smaller towns are pretty much mono-ethnic. Race-mixing is more common in cosmopolitan city environments where there's more racial diversity.

I don't think that tribalism is something that necessarily has to be solved, but critiqued and kept in awareness.

Under the system we're talking, tribalism has markers. Certain actions make you part of the tribe or not, certain behaviours, certain aspects of your physical reality even.

I think that racism will be always be a problem in some form for the simple fact that people are more likely to distrust those who look different to them, but I don't think that's a good reason to not argue against it. My argument is that the parameters of who is part of the tribe can be changed, that they're not rigid, because a tribe is made up of individuals with their own personal views of who is a member and who is 'other'.
