This was a pretty great Steven Universe movie, all things considered.

Pearl's death scene was particularly heart-wrenching.
>>
>>91944777

the big difference is that Pearl in the movie is a likeable character that found redemption at the end.

in SU Pearl, she is still a piece of shit.

The movie was good, some jokes were dumb but it was a nice movie. I was surprised Stallone was in it.
>>
>>91945306
Also Pearl didn't have "I want to fuck genocidal Rose" as its whole character.
>>
>>91947450

yeah, that too. But there are similarities of StarLordbeing a weapon by his father like Steven is a weapon by his mother.

makes you think
>>
>>91944777
just saw it
I'm surprised this is the only thread about the movie
anyway I gotta get some shit off my chest
thy the fuck didn't Groot have a moment simiral to the one in not sure if it was Vol2 of the comics or Annihilation, but Groot exploded from a twig to a giant tree that destroyed a citadel
I didn't really care about the "guy conquers world after world" meme, hated it in Avengers Vol 5 as well
the Ego/Peter fight reminded me of Thanos vs Peter+Nova

overall it was fun but also kinda disappointing
some of the effects were trash as well
7/10

>come on /co/ to discuss GotG 2
>not out in america, the country that made it, for another week

>>91951062

I liked that it wasn't a typical big bad guy is after the mcguffin plot, there's like three different antagonist forces throughout and it's more about the characters adventures than get le magic crystal for the 10th time
>>
>>91951305
>>not out in america, the country that made it, for another week
>>91951305
It has been like that for many Marvel movies. I don't know why.
>>
>>91951062
Same. Gunn improved on the biggest flaws of the original film (Gamora being garbage, terrible action scenes) and he doubled down on everything else. If you hated the first one then you won't enjoy this, but as a sequel it's bigger and better than the original in every way. And he still maintained that core of genuine heartfelt emotion in between all the dumb jokes, that same core which made the original film so popular and still marks it apart from the majority of Marvel movies. I ended up dragging my mother along with only a cursory explanation of the first film that left her more confused than when I began, and much to her surprise she loved and understood the sequel. And she hasn't enjoyed a superhero film since Raimi's first Spider-Man movie.
>>
>>91951757
>(Gamora being garbage, terrible action scenes)
I know it's a small thing, but, for being Thanos's first assassin, Gamora jobbed way too hard in the first movie.
>>
>>91951826
She's much better here. Not my favorite by any stretch but enough to overcome my own personal hang -ups with Zoe Saldana. Kills the monster at the very start and her fight with Nebula isn't some poorly edited embarrassment. Drax is way more durable too, he tanks like forty tree trunks at a hundred miles an hour and he isn't even fazed, they both feel more like actual superhumans rather than borderline peak human.
>>
>>91949513
>thy the fuck didn't Groot have a moment simiral to the one in not sure if it was Vol2 of the comics or Annihilation, but Groot exploded from a twig to a giant tree that destroyed a citadel
Because although his main point is to be cutesy, at the very end the fact that he's a baby is plot-relevant as if it's the Guardians' collective child, it's Groot who takes Peter out of his melancholy state about Yondu's death by taking an earplug to listen to "Father and Son" and Peter cuddles him as he's been passed the role of the father
>>
So who's your guys' choice to play Adam Warlock
>>
>>91953511
that makes sense
the teen groot mid credit scene was hilarious
>>91953528
Domhnall Gleeson
>>
>>91953528
Reverse-trap Elizabeth Debicki. Your dick knows it's the patrician choice.

>>91952437
Agreed, Gamora still doesn't quite work, but at least she's not the cardboard she was in the first movie. Still not intimidating, violent or inspiring particularly erotic thoughts, but better.
The fact that Drax, Gamora and Nebula all pull outright superhuman stunts is a nice touch too since the scenes where those happen are built to underline that. Not to mention that Ego has to resort to tentacle-strangle them or use quicksand instead of slapping them around like the others
>>
I felt like there were a few too many dumb jokes, it seemed like a lot of scenes that should have been impactful or resonant were spoiled by a stupid joke breaking the moment.
>>
>>91953847
That's been a huge problem with Marvel movies for a while now. At least with Gunn writing they're usually funny jokes. Usually.
>>
>>91953929
It felt like it had ramped up a little here. I rewatched GotG in preparation so maybe I'm just comparing it to that, it felt like that had the same amount of jokes but in the right places.
>>
So Ego isn't ACTUALLY Peter's father right? That was all a ruse right? RIGHT?

>>
>>91953847

It's literally a comedy movie though.
>>
So you guys think Yondu took Quill to the robot hooker planet when he turned fifteen or did he try to ease him into adulthood with something a little softer? Like a Shi'ar concubine after he remembered the kid talking about some hot bird lady Sorceress from He-Man that he had a crush on?
>>
>>91954199
>the robot was voiced by miley cyrus

this movie had quite the cameos
>>
>>91954199
Charlie-27 is pretty important to the GotG mythos.

It's gonna be amazing if we actually get to see some Guardians 3000 action.
>>
>>91954295

What I want to know is did Thanos molest Nebula and Gamora.
>>

Gunn creamed his jeans over getting to direct Stallone in this one, you can bet we'll get the two Guardians teams having adventures together at some point. Hopefully with a Nathan Fillion Wonder Man in tow.

Humanoid. Xandarians might look human but biologically they're not. Most of the Earthlings out there like Quill saw all the hot alien snatch on offer and never looked back. Earth's basically a rural armpit as far of the rest of the universe is concerned, the only thing marking them out is how the Asgardians and other Celestial pantheons used to vacation there. Earth is basically some shitty Mexican spring break town where the gods came to get shitfaced and fuck the local girls. We're bush league. Which makes it the perfect hiding place for Infinity Stones, and why the Avengers' first victory was so unexpected. It was like a modern army invading a pygmy smurf village and five smurfs started effortlessly kicking the shit out of the troops.

>>91958226

Church of Universal Truth requires their own film. Something for volume 3 I guess; I wonder what Queen songs would fit them, as I'm noticing a considerable lack of it in the soundtracks.

Besides, you need someone who can top Ego's genocide attempt, and Ayesha isn't really good enough for that in the MCU, which is a bit of a shame seeing as Debicki might be able to pull it off

It's called Zune, it's what everybody is listening to now a days.

It has 300 songs.

I laughed at this and no one else seemed to even get it.

I appreciated that alot of the scenes repeated in trailers and tv spots were actually a little different in the film, a few bits missing completely.

I thought it was straight product placement

actually what is the joke, what's a zune, is the joke that modern day digital players have like 10,000 songs?
>>
>>91965933
horrible product placement just like the fucking Ford car
>>
>>91965920
about an hour and 16 minutes in and then at the very end you see them again
>>
>>91965994
>>91965933
It might not be product placement, the Zune was fully discontinued as of 2012. I think it's the "modern" walkman. They probably picked the zune because the ipod product line is still being produced.

but, the blatant dairy queen advertising could mean otherwise
>>
>>91965933

The joke is how terribly the Zune bombed when it came out. It was Microsoft's attempt to beat out Apple.
>>
>>91965933
>>91965994
The Zune was a huge flop and isn't even being made any more. The whole joke is that the hip new thing everyone's listening to was never hip, isn't new, and no one listens to it.

It's hard to be product placement for a product that no longer exists. Which is why it was found in a JUNK shop

Literally the whole reason for her being there is that she can manipulate emotions and helps Ego sleep

All she said is that she never met anyone outside of that one person
>>
i'm not up to date on the lore, but are all the celestials dead? why didn't they stop ego ?
>>
>>91967358
>>91966747
How does a Zune work? Were the songs all pre-loaded or was Peter able to put all his old music in it from the clones in the Ravager ship?
>>
>>91971807
Ego thought he was alone for long time. So he might have been the last Celestial still alive, concealing his true nature.
>>
>>91959057
Mantis but Ayesha really makes my dick golden.
>>
>>91954685
>>91970719
Don't think Ego was ever a Celestial in comics so that was a huge difference, also from what he was saying, he was left and abandoned in outer space, so he would have no idea what a Celestial would look like as he was living in space alone for millions of years.
>>
>>91971807
No idea. There's always a mystery to Celestials. Usually, the case is that they are usually somewhere else in the unknown reaches in space, creating and experimenting new planets.

And only return to their experiments to judge whether they should continue or existing or exterminated. Perfect set up for a non-Galactus Avenger movie.
>>
>>91966614

absolutelly not haram and bullocks. Zune is picked because accord the storyline Yandu was on earth again in a time when Zune was popular. aditionally there was not much music digitalised back then. just saying "mp3" mean paying fees to some germany company.

i laughted my arce off when i saw the Kurt the Russ. he is still in great shape even got shorter.
>>
I thought it was great. Much better, plot-wise, than the first. Great designs, great characters. Everyone had enough screen time, which is impressive.

My only issues are that some of the humor was forced, like those banter scenes which felt like a child trying to stretch a joke because you didn't laugh at the first punchline. The effects were very noticeable sometimes, but I can get past that.

Also, minor nitpick : Ego thought "Imma create what I think extra egostrial life might look like" and he made a human form instead of an insect or weird bobbly looking thing. Of course it's for plot purposes, but in universe it's a bit on the nose and human-centric.

Also I had a good lauch at the Sovereign ships, because that kind of "video game" warfare is something I thought would be neat to do to avoid death during war, except I was around ten, and the adults of my family thought that was a dumb idea from a stupid geeky boy.
Soon after that, America started using drones more and more.
>>
>>91954202
*slaps chest twice*
>>
>>91954591
She knows she has them because sshe uses them on Ego. That's an actual plot point.
>>

>>
The reveals about the skeletons in the cave and Quill's mom were pretty shocking.
>>
>>91972149
>How does a Zune work? Were the songs all pre-loaded or was Peter able to put all his old music in it from the clones in the Ravager ship?
ZUNE was technologically superior to the ipod at the time. But it wasn't as stylish and is badly marketed.

Microsoft made the mistake in thinking they just need "better hardware". That is never enough when you are talking about a mainstream consumer device. They failed to make ZUNE cool to own, so it died. That's all there is to it.
>>
>>91973167
The Quill part especially. He was very clearly a sociopath, but this was a great way to cement how much of a monster he was.
>>
>>91972636
>so he would have no idea what a Celestial would look like as he was living in space alone for millions of years.
>>91972636
He met other space civilisation, though. That's like, an huge plot point in the movie. And several of those civilisation knew about Celestial, so it's quite possible he simply joined the dots together and figured it out.
>>
>>91973066
>and he made a human form instead of an insect or weird bobbly looking thing.
Aren't Celestial known for toying with Humanity? I thought they were the reason there were so many humanoid in the universe. It might have been a instinctive development, through genetic remembrance.
>>
>>91973408
I meant more in the beginning when he came into consciousness as a living being.

He wouldn't have any idea what a Celestial would look like. I also believe he mentioned that it took him millions of years before he found life?

So by the time he would find out what a Celestial would look like, he was already comfortable with whatever form he was in.

>>91973431
Pretty much. The whole humanoid thing is just a product of B-movie scifis as they never had the makeup, props or budget to make outwardly alien things so the excuse is that the humanoid form is the preferred form for evolution.
>>
>>91973431
Well this version of him wasn't a humanoid and had never seen any (or didn't remember). besides he used the same form to seduceand fuck different species, while he could have changed forms.

Again, it's minor as fuck. I just noticed and it made me go "eh."
>>
>>91973458
>He wouldn't have any idea what a Celestial would look like.
My point is, maybe he didn't found out he was a celestial before interacting with civilisations.
>>
>>91973522
>Well this version of him wasn't a humanoid and had never seen any (or didn't remember).
Hence why I am talking of genetic remembrance, he know about the human shape because his celestial parent where big fans of it and he got an instinctive attraction to through genetic heritage.
>>
>>91973556
I could see that
>>
>>91965933
The joke is that the Zune was basically dead on arrival since it was basically just a shittier iPod and hasn't been relevant in years because it bombed so hard.
