I remember in the Ultimate comics he was very laissez faire about homosexuality. He said at one point pretty early on he didn't care what other people did with their lives, they should be free to do what they want.

actually, in the 1920's they weren't as racist and homophobic, at least not in the way we think. NYC actually had a decently sized gay community for the time. Hell, the Army wasn't even segregated, that didn't happen until Wilson took office, and he and his Progressive friends went on a complete racist and homophobic campaign to reshape society into their image.
