Hey /co/, just finished reading the released volumes of Thorgal. Are there any other great fantasy comics out there?

I was reading Prince Valiant, but I couldn't find scans.

The Roy Thomas era of Marvel's Conan is SPECTACULAR. Dark Horse's first few years of Conan were arguably even better. The first volume in particular is one of the best comics ever.
>>
>>91930736
Yeah, but I'm kind of Conan'd out for awhile.

Skull Kickers is pretty decent if you want fantasy that doesn't take itself seriously and pokes fun at every comic trope. And by not seriously I mean like pic related.
>>
>>91930966
Try Cerebus.

Cerebus the Aardvark starts off as an unfunny parody of Conan, but it becomes one of the greatest fantasy comics of all time when it starts branching out into politics, religion and mysticism a couple years in.

Eh, I recall it being quite edgy.

What exactly are you looking for in a fantasy comic? Multiple recs have been given already.
>>
>>91931180
I'll second that, and add that it becomes one of the greatest fantasy ANYTHINGS of all time. There's nothing else in any medium even remotely like it (though it definitely turns into an epic slog for a while towards the end, and for my money it doesn't really get good until Church & State).
>>
>>91930219
There is Chninkel from same author and artist, and
Lament of the Lost Moors, which has different author but same artist.
Okko was also fairly entertaining, also and european fantasy series but with an asia like setting.
>>
>>91933145
True, I was vague.

I guess I want something like Thorgal, with a good mix of character drama, action and adventure.
>>
>>91936072
I also don't like very grim things.
>>
>>91930219
Shame we don't have scans of all the Valiant volumes.

Different anon, but is there much out there that is grim, dark, and a bit rapey with gratuitious nudity? Berserk, Elder Scrolls, and GOT have ruined me. The pure and innocent Tolkien fan I was died a long time ago. Anything that isn't grim and a slightly deviant feels shallow and colorless.

That said, i too just got the first volume of Thorgal, and it looks like it might scratch that itch a little.

Warlord
Red Sonja by Thomas and Thorne

I was gonna say Slaine too

I know, and I am so sorry. In my defense, it also ruined me in turn.

Most of my adolescent faps where to shit like the edgy scenes in Wizard's First Rule and the groping scene in Bakers Boy. Fantasy is full of some really messed up sex scenes, and they can really mess you up in your formative years.

As for the violence and grit, that just comes from age and realising that most fantasy settings would be really shitty places to live, unless it was a magic-intensive setting that gave comnfort and hygene levels approaching the modern.

Still, I am sorry. If it helps, I love the Memory, Sorrow and Thorn series, so I'm not a total lost cause.

>most fantasy settings would be really shitty places to live

Classics like LOTR, comfy as they are, don't really go into shit like how fucked the walkers skin would be after months upon months of walking and sweating in the same clothes, and the massive sores and state Frodo and Sam would have been after Mordor. The plight of women with no man or militia to defend them might be alluded to briefly, but it's barely an afterthought. The sheer horror and ruin of war and battle is mostly glossed over.

Books in general are the last bastion of uncensored depravity and degeneracy. I bet there is a fantasy book out there that derscribes in graphic detail how a giant/troll of some sort fucks a woman to death. Hell, there are probably standard none-fiction and fiction both that have graphicly described 'memoirs' or scenes of the most messed up shit you can imagine. If you market it to a niche, or even better, claim it's you telling your story and thus it's not porn and clearly from the way you write it something you get off to recalling, no one gives a shit.
>>
Nobody suggested Arthesia yet.

I mean, yeah, the series suffers from the usual Anglo problem of not being in print...
>>
>>91940127
>Wizard's First Rule

My sympathies.

All this talk about books just reminded me that there was Xanth comic.

extremely good taste.
I liked Triskell
and Les naufragés d'ythaq
>>
Lanfeust is also mandatory I think.
>>
>>91940127
Read The Night Angel series. It's full of edgy shit.

Personally? I"d rather have heroic adventure stories like Thorgal or Prince Valiant.
>>
>>91942002

I grew up with the Prince Valiant cartoon, and it was amazing. Thorgal I've only just become aware of. Thanks for the recc.
