It's weird how Starlin is writing Gamora and Drax like he used to write them and writing Peter and Rocket (and I assume Groot too) based on what he saw in the movies.

It's not weird at all. Starlin created Gamora and Drax so he's gonna keep writing them the same way he always has. He has no real attachment to Rocket, Star-Lord or Groot so he writes them based on their modern personalities which, yes, are based more on the movies.
And because this is is Starlin, Pip the Troll is in this book too. He genuinely doesn't understand why other writers won't use him.

It was, but Starlin had an accident, broke his hand, and he even lamented thay he might not draw again because his hand is fucked up. He had to change an upcoming GN he was working on into a novel.
