I have tried no less than 7 times to get into Hunter X Hunter. I know people who love it, I see people talk it about it regularly... but every goddamn time I try to watch it, it's just awful. Like "can barely make it through a single chapter/episode due to physical revulsion at how ugly and generic it is" awful.

Is there somewhere in the story I can start where it's good? I've tried the manga and both anime.

Remender's Archangel was great. Kind of like a mix between Apocalypse and Ozymandias.

This scene is one of the examples of why I like him.
Even if AoA Victor doesn't die, Archangel's uncaring facial expression is what makes this scene chilling. Plenty of supervillains are hateful and obsessive, but few are genuinely disturbing when they are just cold.
