I am in possession of number of VHS cassettes containing early cartoon network programming, including old Toonami and Adult Swim blocks complete with vintage bumpers and commercials

I've begun digitizing them and attempted to upload them to Youtube however I've discovered that Youtube is blocking my uploads worldwide making this whole effort pointless.

Where is the best place to upload these videos to the internet? I am at a total loss.

Thank you.
>>
>>91905345
Use vimeo
>>
>>91905345
Really depends on how visible you want them. As I've experienced with Over The Garden Wall, and the recent Adventure Time Miniseries, using google drive might be good. Basically creating a folder with all of these videos uploaded to it shared with link. Though that said, that would be useful for basically sharing and sharing alike, and be a private thing rather than a big "publishing it for the whole world to see" sort of thing.
>>
do you have all the CN/Boomerang Groovies?
>>
>>91905480

I'll check it out, Ty kind sir or madam
>>
>>91905528

Probably a few at least, I have only started to go through these tapes, I must have at least 2
dozen of them.

>>91905524
Are Google Drives still 15 gigs? These files are about 2.5 gig a piece, I wouldn't be able to fit too many of them on a Gdrive. (videos I've been making are each 3 hours long)
>>
>>91905345
Do you have a Myspleen account? They fucking love that shit.
>>
>>91905631

I do not. Tell me more about this Myspleen you speak of...
>>
also anyone know if vimeo blocks videos for bullshit copyright reasons?
>>
>>91905677
It's a torrent tracker. They like shit like things taped with original commercials. They also got a whole Cartoon Network category. It's private tho so you'd need to get an invite from someone.

Not sure if I'm using the best compression, is that a normal file size for a 3 hour long video?

I really haven't done this stuff before.

Also I seem to be coming up with a lot of Comedy Central stuff, mostly early daily shows. What is the level of interest in this kind of thing, any?

Does anyone here have old tapes of this channel? You have no idea how badly I want them.
>>
>>91906409
From my experience, it should be roughly 1gb of footage per hour, so you're compressing well enough.

VHS was mostly magnets, not code like DVDs, is the problem here.

Do you need to upload the episodes themselves?

I uploaded some VHS tapes to Youtube, but only the commercials. Worse I got was a strike against a music video, but they monetized it and left it up.

I actually have never made torrents before so right now I'm looking at MEGA as the best option. I've already made an account and I'm uploading my first video, this seems pretty easy.

Too tedious to sit and record commercials. I'm sitting on 100+ hours of video here, I just want to just rip it and get it out the door.

True, that wouldn't be the worst thing, but it's still work, and anyway it's more fun if you have the original shows in there too.

What are you using to export the video file? It's reporting as 350x480 which causes the player to look like this unless you manually stretch it.

Ideally 640x480 would be the resolution you'd want to capture at for future reference.

Thanks again for your hard work digitizing these! A lot of people will appreciate it.

This seems like a good thread to ask...anyone know a good place to watch recorded Cartoon Network from the City era? I remember the cartoons very well, but I heard a woman's voice between shows while rewatching Grim Adventures who I don't remember, but I must hear everything she has to say. She makes me super nostalgic even though I don't remember her.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8Oq5Ml3UO8

People seem to call her Nikki, and I think her name is Tara Sands, I'm not sure if that's right.

Tara Sands is one of those, I'm just not certain if she's also the voice between the shows. I checked her voice in a modern interview but I will check an actual clip from Fridays, too.

This was back in 1999 when they had Cartoon Cartoon Fridays with the live action hosts. During the summer, they gave away stuff like that Ed, Edd 'n Eddy jawbreaker machine in the form of a telethon parody called the "CCF Call-A-Thon." The biggest prize was a trip to Bora Bora, which I'm not sure who won.

I don't know how I know these things lol
>>
>>91924018
Tara Sands was the cohost of the live action Fridays for a time between 2005 and 2007. She didn't do the City Era voiceovers though, I think that was Nikki.

Question for /co/mrades who are 20: do you associate more with the plentiful 2000-2006 era of cartoons (Samurai jack, Teen titans, Dave the barbarian, courage), or the shitty "Out of Jimmy's Head/Johnny Test" era of 2006-2009?

Like, if someone were to ask you "what were your favorite childhood cartoons", would more ones come from 2000-2006, or 2006-2009?

Unless you go with lossy compression (e.g. JPEG), there are information-theoretic limits to how far you can compress things. Good modern video encoding can get close to that, so there isn't much room for zip compression to work with.

I remember more from 2000-2006 than 2006-2009. Recently rewatched teen titans and I was able to remember a shit load more stuff than I thought I did about the first two seasons. If anyone else is interested in old TV commercials, check this guy out:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGORywXq1nQ4KWp2KECnn9g

Other than that, just search "[channel name] commercials" (without quotes) on youtube. You can add the year you want at the end for filtering too. I love this sort of thing because its such an easy trigger for nostalgia. The funny thing is that the commercials are better for that than the actual shows are.
>>
>>91938367
It's a tough call. When I was a kid (like 3-5) I watched the classic CN shows like Samurai Jack, Powerpuff Girls, and Johhny Bravo. I loved the CN City bumps, I liked those Will.I.Am music videos, and liked those experimental shows like Class of 3000 and Whatever Happened to Robot Jones.

But then around 2007, my cousins came to live with my family for 3 years. We were probably 11 or 12 around that time, so still young, and I remember that we would sit together every night for dinner and watch CN. So we thought the live action was garbage and half baked, but things like Johnny Test and the Har Har Tharsday block (which was Flapjack, Chowder, and TDI) have some sort of nostalgic merit
>>
>>91938367
Definitely 00 - 06, I pretty much skipped the JR crap and went right into Disney films and 40's cartoons.

My general channel of choice was Cartoon Network, so i've seen all of the Cartoon Cartoons, with the exception of Robot Jones. I remember fridays and toonami vividly.

Early Nickelodeon is far less so, I watched Rugrats, Ah! Real Monsters!, Angry Beavers, and all the later shows, but I missed Ren and Stimpy and Doug completely.

No Disney channel except for Recess reruns, no WB or Fox kids at all (did watch Jetix)

I recently too found an old VHS tape I recorded with some KidsWB on it. Wen't out and bought a VHS + a Capture card with intentions of uploading the commercials to Youtube. (I know the actual shows would be blocked/copyrighted immediately.)

However this project was really fun and makes me wan't to keep on finding more VHS tapes and converting them.

My questions are does anyone know if there is a Discord for this?

My tape produces a mosquito noise sound, would anybody recommend a software that'll remove that if its possible?

Do you guys think that CN has all of this stuff stored in a higher resolution just sitting in an archive somewhere? Or is it all wiped to save space?
>>
>>91949581
They apparently had a bunch of Moltar era Toonami stuff lying around, which they gave to a YouTube archivist to upload: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLikGOvRUIwYmzx-S7RbhfEJq2otlreI1c

I'm not sure about CN promos though. They were preserved until around 2002, and Primal Screen has uploaded some of them to their website, but they haven't preserved all of them.

I have lots of stuff, but the highlights are 6 episodes of Robotech with commercial breaks recorded off of Toonami Midnight Run in Summer 1999, nearly 12 hours of Cartoon Network programming from November 1999, and three complete 2003 Toonami blocks - one from July 2003 and two from September 2003 when they aired DBZ movies. >>
>>91988431
Also there's a new guy on YT uploading some old YTV/Teletoon stuff but only commercial break type stuff

For the Americans ITT he's got Fox Kids and Kids WB too

This is probably a stretch, but does the OP or anybody have static footage of the old "Off-air" bumpers they used to run when the signal got cut off? like during thunderstorms and shit, I vividly remember a lot of CNs because it was always a shitstorm in NY
>>
>>91988363
if this was still 2009, I'd give you over 9000 internets, but since were grown ups now, I'll give you something better, my respect.

Yeah, I have one. During Dragon Ball Z they once aired it immediately after the first act of an episode ended for some reason. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QbY_3AMhJk4&t=16m58s

They also aired a promo immediately after it about how CN is the only channel that airs cartoons 24 / 7. Definitely one of the more ironic ones out there lol
>>
>>91988909
Ha, I'm so oddly fascinated with them; they were always so eerie and strange and I feel like they dissipated after TV went mostly digital.
>>
>>91988909
Zarre, you're friends with YouTuber CNArchive aka Cartoonothing right? He's another CN archivist like you.

Well, for some fucking reason, he had an 04-06 CN compilation on his cartoonothing channel that he put on private. Can you try asking him to upload it or put it on Mega.nz or something?
>>
>>91988958
Here's a CN City-era one.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OfSEU4dDC7M

I remember an anon writing a Creepypasta about this bumper on /co/ 5 years back. Something about Plank being jammed into the fence and the sounds of the children playing slowly getting louder and turning into screams. Ofc it was bullshit.
>>
>>91989003
Boy, I know you're not going to believe this because it's 4chan, but that was me. I remember that thread like it was yesterday. I think I still have the image somebody shopped for me on my old computer
>>
>>91988966
I haven't seen him in a long time so I'm not sure. I just started uploading content to YouTube a year ago.

Much obliged!!!!!!!!

>>91988658

Thanks. I have others but they are almost all Ed Edd n Eddy. I have an interesting set of Adult Swim blocks where their aired Popeye after Dragon Ball Z.
>>
>>91989211
Mate if it's EEnE, Popeye or DBZ, make sure to upload them all.
>>
>>91989040
that was a fun thread. post that pic for the hell of it.

I'm going to keep reposting until someone responds.

If these threads keep going on this is going to be mandatory. Right now I am putting them on DVDs but the file sizes are getting too big.

No

I don't think I'd be crazy to say this thread is the best thing to happen to /co/ since /cock/.
>>
>>91964605
Nice.

Though, I'll admit, I agree with you and Luis's Twitter posts that the YES era really had no reason to exist. It was basically just the CN City era, but with lolrandom humor and bright colors added.

>xplay and the Tick
You are a cutured man

>clarence, 6teen and berserk
with hard drive space to waste
can you share xplay/the tick and spiderman?
>>
What always fascinates me with these is the little technical details. Stuff like channel idents, picture quality and colouring*, the GUI of the television (like the kind of box used to say what program is on and such.)

Is there anywhere for watching old VHS tapes more widely? TV news in particular fascinates me.
>tfw no full copy of the BBC's Iraq War coverage to stripmine for entertainment.

Hey at least it's not the new berserk, can't defend 6teen though, it's just nostalgic for me

Spider-man is like 5 seasons so I don't think I'll upload it to mega, but you can find the torrent on tpb under the username DeliXiosO if you just search for spiderman.

Anyone in here has this entirety of the Moxy Show on their hard drive by any chance? I was only able to find the very first episode (plus a few tidbits squeezed on it) on MySpleen.
>>
>>91988831
You're super late to the thread. Not him, but I sent you a link.
>>
Late to thread, link anyone?
>>
>>91996604
When/where did this air? I've never even heard of it.

>>91996735
There are a lot of links here already, you're going to have to be more specific. If you want a myspleen invite, post an email address.
>>
>>91996784
Cartoon Network. It was actually their first original production ever, so to speak.

http://cartoonnetwork.wikia.com/wiki/The_Moxy_Show

Also never got an official release on DVD, and apparently not many people bothered to tape it, not even the producers, hence the apparent rarity.
>>
>tfw have piles of recorded tv on tape, but only had over the air tv
Unless there's an interest in local news or maybe some PBS cartoons, probably redwall at beast
>>
>>91997314
Any Cyberchase?
>>
>>91997314
redwall yes please
>>
>>91997346
Highly doubt it, I was never that into it
>>91997371
There's probably 1 or 2 episodes. I'll go through the piles of VHS tapes and upload anything interesting
>>
>>91997436
thanks friendo.

although I think they'll be in the next thread
>>
So what should the OP be for these kind of threads?
>>
This question isn't necessarily /co/ related, but I do gotta wonder if there is another private tracker similar to the premise of MySpleen (vhs recording, rarities and etc) but geared towards movies as a whole? No invite offers are needed just a name will suffice.
