Homestuck was like having a 7 course meal, it started slow with the appetizers, then got really good for the main part of it, and then you bit into the sixths course and while it looked good, it tasted like shit, and then for the seventh course the cook literally just took a shit on your plate.

The actual game aspects of Homestuck were great and the adventure game presentation of the earlier acts kept it novel. The midnight crew were great characters, all forms of them, and the first three kids had a solid dynamic in Acts 1-4.

The major style shifts that happened in Acts 5 and Act 6 killed it. It's obvious that Hussie's lack of structure and planning with the narrative snowballed into a huge problem post-Cascade when he was unable to properly resolve any of the ideas he inserted into his comic on a whim, and given the huge emphasis on time travel and the scale of the story that's a major fucking problem. Lord English suffered the most from that, with the finale having almost nothing to do with him since his role as the main villain came after Hussie concepted the character and ending pre-Intermission. I'm sure the hiatuses didn't help this bizarre writing process either.

The change from slapstick and referential humor to a character focused coming of age story is a part of that problem. The characters Hussie introduced from the very start were never meant to support the serious drama that got dumped onto them later in the story. One of the more egregious examples was Bro retroactively being portrayed as abusive because the ridiculous comedic anime sprite rap battles from the beginning were suddenly supposed to be a grounded, believable child/son relationship.

Another good one is Rose. In Act 6 she is an outright different character from the one in Act 3. Cascade wrapped up her initial arc and Hussie had to shit something else out for her to keep her relevant afterwards. Some of it can be justified with the timeskip but in the end it just wasn't enjoyable or cohesive, and transformed the character into something really unappealing.

In retrospect I think the comic was always doomed to a poor ending, although the fanbase it developed did not help. The haphazard nature of MSPA did not suit Homestucks scope and character driven plotline.

Homestuck was way too ambitious a project and it sort of fell to crap, what with the cancerous fanbase and Hussie being a cuck.

Act 1 - 4 were godly, Act 5 was great, Act 6 onwards was just progressively got shitter.

Those were the only two pulling me through the story, and they both ended up hollow shells of their former selves. I actually had a dream the other night that I was walking around a full-fledged society of cherubs akin to Alternia. Anyone can reduce a character down to a single prominent trait like "nice", especially if their traits are subtler than a few memetic interests. She has more to her than that.

In terms general to her species, she's a perfectly jovial person who has to navigate sharing both a body and small quarters with someone who's evil and hates her to the point of murder. I don't think that the experience being broadly applicable to her species means that it isn't something I can enjoy about her specifically, especially since she's the only example of that aspect of the species we've seen in action. In terms specific to her, she's passionate about art and storytelling, she likes analysis/theorizing, and she's confident in her creativity and intelligence but struggles with low self-esteem over her appearance and practical abilities.

And, just in general, I like her as the person she comes across as in her dialogue. She's someone I'd enjoy talking to and reminds me in a very natural way of friends I have - which was kind of Hussie's intent, though probably in a meaner way than I take it. She's a stand-in for creative, kind, broadly social teenagers in the fandom, and I think she's a great take on the general personality type.
