Jin was supposed to be an ideal for Zuko representing what his life could be like if he accepted his new life and let go of his past. She symbolized that there was a life for him beyond that of being a banished prince, that he could be happy. She didn't even comment on his scar, Jin represented what Zuko's conflcited nature couldn't attain. She has such a wonderful personality because she's an Ideal. Funny how despite only being onscreen for a few minutes, she's such a memorable Character. Again its because Jin represents the life Zuko could have in Ba Sing Se, what his uncle wants him to have. Of course, the fact is, he had to make his own destiny and in the end it didn't lie in the Earth Kingdom, he had to learn not to please his father, but overcome him.

She really was such a nice girl. It's just a bit sad that the circumstances were right enough for them to meet, but not right enough to be together. Zuko always had a choice to make when it came to what kind of life he would lead. Book 2 finale had it kind of muddled, but I don't think he'd be unhappy with living in the Earth Kingdom, but rather unhappy never being who he truly is, like his mother's parting words urged him to.
