This. I'm fine with townie shit or slice of life episodes if they at least develop the characters, but the thing is, Steven universe actually has two completely different stories going on. You have the gem lore stuff, and then you have the townie stuff, and aside from a few references, they don't overlap whatsoever. There's no fucking point to them. And in the case of Lars, he doesn't even grow as a character. 4 seasons of this shit and he's still an asshole to Sadie and still relies on how the "cool kids" perceive him. he never learns anything. I honestly don't understand what Sugar is doing in creating all these useless stories. There's been speculation that the upcoming bomb will finally tie the two together, with the townspeople being abducted and directly involved with gem stuff, but in all honesty, they will probably go back to their lives and not care about what's going on.

I thought this next bomb was the end of Season 4?

No, I like townie episodes with high-stakes and intensity due to gem monsters.

But episodes like Future Boy Zoltron and Rocknaldo were literally just boring slice of life episodes with nothing really engaging.

I think it's because the townies don't grow much as characters, so a lot of their stories don't matter. ie, Ronaldo's the same character now as he was when he first appeared.

I think the biggest problem with the focus on the human cast is that they aren't really human. They're a sterilized alternate humanity with none of the mean old religions, none of the big wars, and an inexplicable lack of curiosity. Its funny how they made an episode about how creepy it is that gems were turning humans into docile pets when they're basically doing the same thing.

This wouldn't be a problem in a gag show, but its weird when they try to get serious and talk about great humans are. The gems, including the homeworld ones, are closer to actual humans than pretty much all of the townies.
