Because if you forced me to guess what would happen in season 3, not what I want (Starco) but what is plausible for the show, I would say Marco would put things on hold with Jackie. Then Marco goes after Star with his scissors along with Janna, Kelly and Pony Head who tag along with him. And Marco would just remain friends with Star.

I don't think it would be that unreasonable for Moon to reserve final approval. Come to think of it, I'm surprised that wasn't required. She's still the Queen of Mewni and her legacy is as much at stake as Star's.
It's not like the musician couldn't have tricked Moon into thinking he wouldn't mention Ludo, but it might not have been as easy.
I can't really blame Star for mentioning it to the songwriter. It's something Star is really ashamed of, and for all we know it could have come up by accident in the course of a marathon creative session that was all about sincerity

If they go too heavy on the Moon and Toffee backstory stuff and keep having her add to the plot in the present, I'd argue Moon. Which would be interesting, but could also indicate sort of a flaw in the larger story outline in that maybe Star should be actively doing more to progress the plot.

Also Marco could probably work pretty well as protagonist, maybe not better but I imagine the show wouldn't change too much since he's prominent in nearly all the episodes. At most maybe Star's crush could be played as more of a surprise, mystery about Star's magic and Mewni could be played up more than it is, etc.

Yeah, it's just, like, we're at the point of the story where Toffee is still Moon's nemesis even from Daron's perspective, she fought him in the past, it's pretty much confirmed they knew each other beyond that one battle, the Season 2 finale had Moon doing a lot of stuff.

I think this season was supposed to be Star being more passive in a lot of ways with constant monster fights no longer being a thing, and that it was intended to develop her character more rather than have her in a lot of action. Almost definitely the story will progress in such a way that Toffee will be more of her enemy as well, like beyond a Storm the Castle situation.

I'm sure they're going to have Star doing more later but it's just a kind of a stupid doubt when there are no episodes in the immediate future. I'm not actually expecting them to fuck up Star's arc/development, but if they do I'd probably question if maybe they should have done things differently with Moon (not even necessarily her being the protagonist, possibly even maybe they shouldn't have made her so important if they fuck up with Star).

But if the next season is written well, which I'm not actually doubting it will be, my concerns will pretty much be a non-issue. I like Moon; it just feels almost like they're writing the plot stuff with her too well.
