You know, I think the problem at Marvel is that it hit critical mass in terms of characters to push. The MCU has very little room for new characters to head up films, the TV shows are becoming too numerous and unruly, and the comics instead of taking chances with new characters create "Iron Man...but now a black woman" "Wasp...except a teenage Russian" and so on.

It would be like trying to make 15 books out of Naruto and his supporting cast. Sure, a lot of the supporting cast of Naruto are better than the main character, but if all they do is crossover with each other books, it starts to feel pointless and samey.

A Combination or casuals not wanting to try new things and diversity hounds wanting a their POC to be instantly famous by way of legacy. Everybody is asking for new characters, but rarely do you see people asking for old non white characters to get an ongoing. People throw Carol under the bus all the time but even her name has some weight and I gurantee you nobody would have picked up Kamala in the first place if she wasn't called Ms.Marvel.

Okay but did anyone besides Hickman give them attention? Did they ever appear in a book that wasn't written by Hickman? Did Marvel try to give any of them an ongoing or a mini? Because from what I've noticed with Marvel is this: Writer creates new, non-legacy character and introduces them in a book they're writing. Book gets cancelled or reaches its conclusion. No one else at Marvel uses said character besides creator and maybe one other writer. Marvel also doesn't try to push or promote said character despite how cool or interesting they are or how much fans would like to see more of them.

Now you may say, "Well other Marvel writers probably just don't care for those characters." Which I could believe, except I keep seeing shit or mediocre characters like Miles, Riri, and Moon Girl appearing in other characters' books and team books. Are you telling me that THAT MANY writers at Marvel like those characters while ignoring more interesting characters like Hummingbird, Mania, and Scorn (yeah I know my inner symbiotefag is showing)? No I don't believe that. It may be true in some of the cases. But it can't be true for all of them. Marvel is clearly forcing or mandating characters to appear in books. And since they are they should do it for other, more interesting non-legacy characters like the ones I mentioned and more.

I bought almost every issue of Mosaic. Of those issues, they are still two I haven't gotten around to reading. Maybe the dude just isn't that interesting. You can't expect people to just throw their money at a character just because they're new and original. They have to be interesting too. They also charged 4.99 for the first issue, which is a horrible way to introduce a brand new character like Mosaic. The first issue should have been at a lower price, like $2.99, $1.99, or maybe even $0.99. That way more people would have been inclined to read it and worry less about spending their money on an unknown. The issues after the first one would be the standard Marvel price.

Also to be honest introducing a brand new character in their own ongoing may not be the best move these days. It would probably be better to introduce them in other characters' books or in team books and THEN give them an ongoing. I'm aware that Mosaic is in Uncanny Inhumans. Maybe it would have been better to introduce him there first?

I mean these weren't even new characters, they were 90's characters that barely got used after. And they were in Deadpool barely long enough for people to care for that matter.

What I was asking was if Superman raising his own son "sticking to the status quo" which this anon >>91829535 was implying DC was doing with their core. Superman is of course part of their core. However I don't think I would say Superman is necessarily sticking to the status quo. The inclusion of Superman having and raising a son is a pretty significant thing and is a change to the common Superman status quo IMO. It's not a bad, forced change though. It's a good, natural change that adds development to Superman.

Now I'm not saying that DC isn't sticking to the status quo with their core. Batman for example seems to be sticking to the status quo. What I guess I'm saying is that it's not that simple. It's not just a matter of sticking to status quo. Yes stick to the status quo but also make changes if need be. But make sure those changes feel natural and not against what the character represents for a lot of people. Superman married to Lois and raising a son is such a change. Peter Parker being a single, rich CEO of a multibillion dollar tech conglomerate is not.
