I thought Bucky Cap was a weird choice

Like, he's a sneaky stabby shooty spy guy. Not exactly the first thing that comes to mind when it comes to running around on the front lines with a shield.

Also, Cap's thing is supposed to be embodying the spirit of American ideals no matter how ugly the reality is. Bucky isn't exactly an idealist. Hell he's probably just glad not to be a brainwashed assassin anymore.

I think Sam Wilson is a better choice, because he's got a big heart that feels for all god's creatures and is used to literally flying around in an obnoxious costume, but it kind of doesn't matter, because Spencer did a shit job of writing that book

Winter soldier was a decent story but I didn't like Bucky until he became Captain America. I thought he should have stayed dead after Fear Itself, but if he's alive Black Widow will always be always be my ship for him

Read Bru's run, it's explained that Steve gave the mantle to Bucky in the case of his death because he wanted Bucky to have a purpose and carrying his legacy was something Bucky wouldn't turn down because he didn't want to disappoint Steve.

Sam is more qualified but back then Bucky needed it more.

And everyone in the hero community, with the exception of Zemo and Hawkeye, was cool with it until the Winter Soldier stuff got out.
