Just finished Thrawn. They heavily hint at Thrawn slowly bringing the Chiss into the Empire and vice versa. My guess is he doesn't trust the Emperor with the Death Star so he 'accidently' allows the Rebellion to find out about Eadu. Final scene of the show could be the Emperor pissed off at Thrawn because now some pilot from Eadu has gone missing and he thinks it's because the Rebellion found out about Eadu somehow during the Battle of Lothal so he decides that Thrawn doesn't belong in the Rebel conflict so he sends him to the Unknown Regions to work on hyperspace lanes and getting the Chiss more involved in the Empire.

They also hint at Thrawn being shit at politics and not minding who leads him so long as they're wise enough to leave him alone, don't want to kill the Chiss, and are strong enough to fight whatever evil is in the Unknown Regions so I suspect he may join the First Order for a while at least before Snoke gets involved. My guess is the second book will show this. Also there's obviously gonna be a second book since Zhan hinted at too much stuff and named a random Chiss Commander who is clearly gonna be working with Eli in whatever adventures they get into next.

I think even if Thrawn had misgivings about the Death Star, he'd calculate that letting the rebellion destroy it would be a massive setback for the Empire and potentially weaken it. He may not agree with the idea of spending so many resources on a single weapon but also see the huge drawback of outright destroying said weapon.

No I think that Thrawn naturally shits on the Rebellion.
1. It's democratic, meaning that he's never going to support it → easier to rank up in the imps and have his authority unquestioned
2. The DS hosts a whole bunch of ISDs and other ships and almost 1.3 mill people, I believe it's mentioned in TTT that Pellaeon is upset that their brightest and most talented people died on the DS
I don't think that Thrawn would happily let the DS get destroyed. More likely he'd want his hands on as many of the engineers that Krennic threw away as possible in case he needs the DS destroyed (in the case that Sheev tries to attack the Chiss) but on the other hand he might think that it's the most stupid idea in the history of stupid ideas but he wouldn't go out of his way to actively cannibalise it.

Jedi do have tactical training. They're taught all kinds of shit at the temple. Many of them were very likely veterans of planetary scale wars and smaller ones.

They said at the Celebration panel that they want the game to feel like the movies in how it is paced. The movies will follow Luke for example, but occasionally have small Vader scenes. They wanted to mimic this, so in this game the story will mostly follow Iden but there will be occasional segments where you get to play as other characters.

The only confirmed playable characters (beyond Iden) are Luke and Kylo.

Firstly, this is a problem of ROTJ more than anything else. Han being a General is weird as fuck. Lando too. It's simpler even than that. A huge theme of the movie is sacrifice for a greater cause. She begins without a cause to believe in because she has lost or been abandoned by everyone she cared for.

However after seeing the message from her father, in which he describes how he has lived in misery for a decade so that he can weaken the Empire from the inside, she now has a cause to believe in. She can't let his sacrifice be in vain. It's completely believable that she would want to see his efforts through to the end and take revenge on the Empire for what they have done.

Later the same idea is used when Cassian and the others volunteer to help her get to Scarif - they can't let all they've done be for nothing. The cause has to survive.

Palpatine may have believed he was following the force, but the critical difference is that was never his pretext for legitimacy. His pretext was the failures of the Senate and his claim that the Jedi which propped up said corrupt Senate were traitors (while killing them before they could mount a defense and securing martial power), legitimacy based on restoring order to a galaxy in chaos, a tenuous grip on power thus the short lived life of the Empire.

It was pretty good. Probably my favorite book in nucanon so far. It was probably the comfiest book since chapters full of Thrawn hanging out on a Gozanti cruiser fighting pirates. I loved how deep Zhan explained Thrawn's thought process to the point that by the end of the book you could somewhat figure out his plans before he outright explains them. Hopefully we do get a second book because the first one was amazing and I get the feeling that it's going to be the best nucanon book for years.

You might miss some of the rough spots of the canon like the Aftermath trilogy (Wendig) and Heir to the Jedi (Hearne) but in the process you'll end up skipping some of the best works like Lost Stars, Bloodline (Gray) and Twilight Company (Freed, who technically has done some legends work but never did a novel). Doing this will also have you skipping out on Ken Liu later this year, who is actually a super relevant and well-respected figure in sci-fi right now.

While we are on the topic of Legends and Canon books, does anybody else miss how the Legends timelines had the years written on them? I mean, I guess the BBY/ABY notation is no longer canon, but it was still nice to keep track of what is happening when.

Why the hell isn't there an in-universe way to tell the year? ABY and BBY are functional, and even sometimes convinient when comparing events to the movies, but there really should be an in-universe way of doing things that readers can also follow. Like, instead of the battle of yavin, base it around the formation of the galactic republic. It's just as easy to follow, and would also make sense in-universe

I never got started on any canon stuff after hearing that Aftermath was a disappointment, then forgot all about it until I heard that Thrawn had been released, so I'm really trying to get a handle on how to sort out what's good and what's crap. Did that Front Lines visual guide ever come out? I can't remember the title but it was supposed to detail major canon battles in deapth. I was kinda looking forward to it but I know it was delayed at least once

The name came from Lucas himself.

What you have to understand is that Lucas never considered the EU canon.

In his own mind, has has had the backstory for the Sith in his head for decades. And I mean that literally, Darth Bane, while not mentioned in any of the movies, came from Lucas's TPM drafts.

So when Lucas says "I want to do an episode where Yoda goes to the Sith homeworld and sees Darth Bane", fans get excited to see Korriban and Bane as they know him.

But then they get "Moraband", and a redesigned Bane. While this might seem like Lucas was retconning stuff, all he was really doing is showing what was in his head for decades.

In Lucas's mind, he never changed anything.

Sort of. I think someone at some point went over the idea that the planet COULD have gone through changes in its history, and at some point the Sith may have still called it Korriban. I don't think this has yet been shown in canon yet. (But that being said, Moraband hasn't really come up again in canon yet)
