IMO it's looking more and more likely that the season's big twist will be the big reveal that Ashi and the 7 Daughters are/were Jack's biological kids.

Ashi washing off her old soot suit and making a dress out of leaves wasn't entirely waifu service. Jack's "I like your dress comments" weren't exactly hints of a romance either - it's symbolic for Ashi abandoning her mother's influence (and tendency for destruction) in favor of Jack's influence (who's positively affiliated with nature.)

He didn't lose his sword in year one. We see in the intro that he lost hope while still looking like classic Jack and still having the sword. I'd guess that he lost the sword within a year or two of 50. And if killing Aku were that easy, Jack wouldn't be traveling for 50 years. The fact is once Aku changed plans to "destroy time portals and let Jack die of old age", he was really fucked until it turned out he was immortal.
