>Marvel Comics is kicking off a new initiative this fall titled Legacy that will "embrace our roots and move enthusiastically forward" in aaccording to Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada.

>Announced during the "Marvel's Next Big Thing" panel at Chicago's C2E2 2017 on Saturday, Legacy 's "bold new direction" will begin with an 50-page Marvel Legacy #1 one-shot by Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic that will feature "the Earth-shattering return of a beloved Marvel mainstay" (cue Fantastic Four speculation now) and will continue through with the publisher's long-running titles reverting to their original series or "classic legacy" numbering.

>“The Marvel Legacy initiative is a celebration of everything that makes Marvel the best in fiction and it’s a signifier of a new era for Marvel Comics,” said Quesada. “It’s a loving look at the heart of Marvel as we embrace our roots and move enthusiastically forward with all the Marvel characters you know and love starring in the biggest, boldest, best Marvel stories. All of which kicks off with the giant Marvel Legacy special.”
>>
>While emphasizing the storied past of the Marvel Universe, the publisher is also mixing in newer characters as well.

>"From there, the Marvel Legacy initiative spreads out across the Marvel Universe, showcasing epic storylines hearkening back to the glory days of Marvel starring Odinson, Squirrel Girl, Spider-Man, the Avengers, America Chavez, Iron Man, Moon Knight, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain Marvel, Luke Cage, the X-Men, Captain America, Ms. Marvel, Deadpool, the Champions, Wolverine, Ironheart, Hulk, The Punisher and so many more!"

>The publisher said that Legacy will encompass the entire Marvel Universe, promsing "blockbuster new storylines" and its renumbered titles coming with "a renewed sense of hope, wonder, enjoyment and fun!"

>Marvel's Legacy initiative expands beyond just the stories and the issue numbers on the front cover, as the publisher plans to revive ancillary elements from its past such as the Marvel Value Stamp, the fan magazine FOOM, and corner box art on covers.

>Marvel said to expect information on the titles and their creative teams for both new and continuing series to be announced in the next few months.

http://www.newsarama.com/34197-marvel-re-embraces-legacy-with-new-direction-original-numbering-throwback-extras.html

This thing is going to cost $5.99 and not be returnable by retailers, isn't it?
>>
>>91757641
>with the publisher's long-running titles reverting to their original series or "classic legacy" numbering
Honestly this alone is worth it. I miss seeing big ass numbers on the covers of capeshit. I'm sure they'll totally fuck up the count for a lot of big titles, but oh well.
>>
Can't wait for all of the 'diverse' legacy heroes to crash as a result.

>and its renumbered titles coming with "a renewed sense of hope, wonder, enjoyment and fun!"

So it's the same old shit with new #1's, like they've been doing for the past 5 years.

>implying anyone here cares

This is DC territory now fool
>>
>>91757787
only this time the #1's are a number that they thought up with creative counting, I wonder if they will include Ultimate Line numbers to make them higher, in an effort to beat DC to issue #1000
>>
>>91757687
This is like the third time this has happened, I remember Spider-Man getting shuffled into a fresh renumbering, but then it reverted back to the classic numbers for issue 500. It's the reason why I was laughing when everyone was screaming that secret wars was a reboot because of the fresh #1s.
>>
>>91757839
If they use multiple titles for a single book that'll really rustle my jimmies. You should only include "volume 1-x" of "Title Y."

So Amazing Spider-man would count:
>volume 1: 441
>volume 2: 58
>volume 1b: 200 (maybe the 9 .x issues?)
>volume 3: 20 (maybe the 8 .x issues?)
>volume 4: 26 or however many there have been now (maybe the 6 .1 issues?)

No Spectacular, no Web of, no Team Up... MAYBE Superior, since they weren't running concurrently.

So ASM renumbered should have ~746 or maybe 769 if they count the point x issues. I knew Marvel was fucking themselves up down the line when they did that, especially since there's no consistency -- sometimes .1 was just marketing (9, 10, 11, 12.1, 13, 14...), sometimes it was a bonus issue (10, 11, 12, 12.1, 13...), sometimes it was just a miniseries (1.1, 1.2, 1.3...) -- it was fucking retarded to be honest.
>>
>>91757990
Yeah, a lot of the legacy numbering returned about a decade(?) ago now. Fantastic Four, Captain America, ASM, Thor, Iron Man...

Then #1 after #1 after #1 for like 5 years. I think Marvel finally realized that people stopped giving a shit about #1s.
>>
>>91757641
>in the biggest, boldest, best Marvel stories.
I doubt all three.

Best dad.

There are a couple of people they could bring back but most would not make people happy/move sales:

Fantastic Four: no one buys the book anymore and more to the point, only got a spin-off book under Hickman as a vanity project. Their departure is huge but would it REALLY fucking make an impact?

Pre-OMD Spider-Man/Mary Jane: Would require a HUGE fucking ass pull but would be a huge fucking moment to get people excited, though it would mean Marvel would have to eat crow on BND/Slott and that's one hill they would die on than concede they were wrong all along.

Wolverine: OK except Wolverine really never left due to Old Man Logan. Plus his return would not create any waves, since Scott is dead and Wolverine isn't THAT axe crazy that he'd want to kill off the Inhuman Royal family for what they did to mutantkind.

Thor using the notion that the real Thor has been dead/exiled since Fear Itself? Would require a massive asspull again. Plus we know Thor's coming back anyway.

Tony Stark: Coming back already, though the cynic in me sees them possibly holding off his return for the sake of propping up Bendis' fragile ego so Riri can get an extension before being shuffled off

Adam Warlock: He's been a non-entity since the DnA Run and only made appearances since then in Starlin's rather masturbatory Thanos one-offs that have had him on the fringe. A Starlin Adam Warlock ongoing that had huge impact on the Marvel Universe could be in the offering.

Professor X: Bringing him back would be a feel good moment but then what?

Jean/Scott: nostalgia and a cue to get rid of the timelost O5 at long last but then what?

Captain Mar-Vel: Would be interesting but Marvel keeps tripling and quadrupling down on Carol. Only way this works is if they bring him back as Carol's love interest/supporting cast member. Or stick him with Kamala, so they can push her into more traditional super-hero stories

No one buys it because THEY DON'T SELL IT. The sales were great under Hickman, and still sold well enough under Fraction. Even under Robinson, it sold better than most of Marvel's books sell these days.

Marvel has a deal, rumored to be set in stone and legally irrevocable, that NO ONE. NO ONE can touch Miracleman until Neil Gaiman finishes the Silver and Dark Ages.

Also, Marvel will probably not touch on someone "corrupting" their universe given that A. They've explicitly stated Reed and Sue and the Future Foundation Kids are responsible for rebuilding creation following Secret War and B. it would mean admitting shit like Sam Wilson going SJW, Iceman going gay, Carol as Captain Marvel, Whor, Riri Williams, Miles Morales, American Chavez, Nazi Cap, Inhumans getting a free pass on trying to mutant genocide, One More Day, Superior Spider-Man, the O5 X-Men in the present, Miles Morales, Pymtron, etc were malicious acts by outside parties/ideas done explicitly to "harm" the Marvel Universe.

It's actually unintentionally hilarious on their part that they're fucked the continuity up so badly with the constant renumberings and re-titlings that they're literally needing to make a fucking guide so people can thread the needle.
>>
>>91760254
>Marvel's numbering is so fucked with annual relaunches that they're putting out a guide to sort it out and likely validate their skeezy attempt to jump Action and Tec's milestones.
I hope this isn't what I think it is. But if Marvel somehow jumps ahead on the issue count of both Tec and Action, the title that started it all, then this is insulting not only to DC but the industry as a whole.

This.

With Rebirth DC finally realized they fucked up and sincerely wanted to fix things so they sat down and thought out how to do it.

Legacy is Marvel spitefully looking at DC and saying YOU WANT THIS? FINE. HERE YOU GO.
>>
Is marvel going to fix ANY in pic related?
Or will they at least admit where in their practices they are fucking up?

No and no?
Then who cares.

It's going to be the same drivel they have now, just with a shiny new name.

Say what you want about Rebirth, whether it's good, bad, mediocre, etc. But at least DC admitted that they fucked up, tried to push smaller writers and get old writers back on characters where they thought they fitted, and actually have a two year direction they're heading towards.

Putting aside the complaints people have already said - the blatant copying of Rebirth without any of the humility or sincerity - is there anyone at Marvel that can actually sell this as a good thing?

When Rebirth was first announced, Cereal Lord was coming into his own in the company and they put him front and center as the mascot for Rebirth. And that was a good move. Because everyone knows what a massive DCFag Johns is and at his heart he's basically just like anyone who regularly reads and is heavily into DC. So when he came on and said "Look, we fucked up but we're going to bring back the real DC." everyone had an idea of what was probably going to happen and everyone connected.

Who the fuck can Marvel put in front of this obvious glib facsimile? There is absolutely nobody at Marvel who can serve as the face of Legacy and endear themselves to the fanbase like Johns had.

Who at the current top of the power structure can do this? Alonzo? Quesada? Brevroot? Buckley? These fuckers are the ones that steered the ship into the iceberg in the first place and everyone hates them. Bendis? Slott?
Basically universally abhorred by regular readers they'd want to attract back. Waid? Spencer? Massive DCFags and regularly lash out at their former company because they'll never get to work on their characters again. Aaron? Ewing? Not big enough to make an impression.

Marvel has nobody. NOBODY to sell this as anything other than an insincere ripoff of Rebirth.

Honestly, I'm a softy for this page.
For that big monologue in the very first page of the last issue of Moore's MiracleMan.
It's honestly beautiful in a weird way and makes me sad to see this kind of spirit isn't the driving force behind most Super-Hero Multiverses.

I remember when I first read the History Of the DC Universe, back in 2009 and thought how wonderful every little corner of the DCU seemed to be, like wonder and adventure were right around the corner for anyone that was willing to search for it.

A world where kids in school would be Taught about the epic battles between nazi mad scientists and drafted caped mystery man during history class.
Where the ruins of ancient magical civilizations could be visited for only a small entrance fee (Students pay only half!)
Where wonderful new tecnologys show just how truly vast the universe is and how wonderful that is, since that only means there is more to explore.
A world where people believe on each other, and know that every single individual in this world is inherently worth helping, regardless of who they are.

But know, I guess that would just be "too complicated" according to DC and Marvel is always obsessed with being "like the real world". Hope that this and Rebirth help change that.

Secret Empire #0 will likely beat The Button in sales because it was also included in the Funko Marvel Collector Corps box recently.

https://www.bleedingcool.com/2017/04/20/unboxing-funkos-guardians-galaxy-vol-2-marvel-collectors-corps-box-spoilers/

If you recall, books that got included in the Marvel Collector Corps boxes got sales boosts on the chart.

Dr. Strange and the Sorcerers Supreme #1 was included in the Dr. Strange box last year:

10/16 Dr Strange Sorcerers Supreme #1 - 149,710
11/16 Dr Strange Sorcerers Supreme #2 - 29,349 (-80.4%)

Ant-Man #5 was included in the Ant-Man box two years ago:

01/15 Ant-Man #1 – 73,370
02/15 Ant-Man #2 – 40,192 (-45.2%)
03/15 Ant-Man #3 – 37,139 (- 7.6%)
04/15 Ant-Man #4 – 31,637 (-14.8%)
05/15 Ant-Man #5 – 83,095 (+162.7%)

Amazing Spider-Man #16 was included in Funko's box last August:
06/16 Amazing Spider-Man#14 - 65,646 (+ 0.2%)
07/16 Amazing Spider-Man#15 - 93,582 [+5,588]
08/16 Amazing Spider-Man#16 - 185,342
08/16 Amazing Spider-Man#17 - 74,869

So if you see Secret Empire #0 high on the chart, possibly looking like it's outperforming Batman and Flash, it's not a surprise. What would be a surprise if it did badly enough that Batman and Flash got more orders, but I doubt it.

Imagine being so buttblasted over fictional villains.

Without knowing exactly what Marvel asked them to do, it sounds like that LCS is being a BIT overly sensitive here.

Isn't the whole point that in the event the bad guys are finally at power and thus heroes HAVE to be heroes?

Doing that would mean pretty much a message against the current systema.

Wait, now THAT makes sense, they're upset about how they feel now as part of the problem, isn't it?

And some hope that she'll be back in the classic costume at last.

Is not Captain America the most heroic hero of all Marvel´s heroes?

>>“The Marvel Legacy initiative is a celebration of everything that makes Marvel the best in fiction and it’s a signifier of a new era for Marvel Comics,” said Quesada

The fuck? I was at this panel. Quesada wasn't even there. Why are they quoting him?

Chris D'Lando was there, not Joe Quesada. Whoever wrote this report is an idiot.

Those quotes come from Chris D'Lando during the panel, though. He said them. But they're being attributed to Quesada. Its just flat out wrong.

It got beaten that month because Boom had a deal with Lootcrate to include Big Trouble in Little China #1 which really boosted their orders. I don't know if any newly released comic got included with Lootcrate recently or not. If they didn't include one, then I'd expect Secret Empire to get the top spot. If they did include one then there's a really slim chance it could beat it.
