Can't We Talk About Something More Pleasant?
http://www.mediafire.com/?q8xbi4g7iaew99b/

It's an autobiographical comic by Roz Chast about her parents dying, one at a time over a long period of time.

>In 2014, the book won the National Book Critics Circle Award in the Autobiography/Memoir section. The shortlist for the award in the section included The Splendid Things We Planned: A Family Portrait (by Blake Bailey), The Other Side (by Lacy M. Johnson), Little Failure (by Gary Shteyngart), and There Was and There Was Not (by Meline Toumani).[9] The book also won the inaugural Kirkus Prize in non-fiction category presented by Kirkus Reviews in 2014 which has a cash remuneration of $50,000.[10] The book was nominated along with Jonathan Swift: His Life and His World (by Leo Damrosch), The Sixth Extinction: An Unnatural History (by Elizabeth Kolbert), The Lagoon: How Aristotle Invented Science (by Armand Marie Leroi), the French book Capital in the Twenty-First Century (by Thomas Piketty and translated by Arthur Goldhammer), and Just Mercy (by Bryan Stevenson).[11] Kirkus described the book as "a top-notch graphic memoir that adds a whole new dimension to readers' appreciation of Chast and her work".[6] The book was a finalist for the Thurber Prize for American Humor along with I See You Made an Effort: Compliments, Indignities, and Survival Stories from the Edge of 50 written by Annabelle Gurwitch but lost to Dear Committee Members authored by Julie Schumacher. The award is presented by the Thurber House in honour of humourist James Thurber.[12] The book was selected as one of The New York Times Book Review's 10 Best Books of 2014.[13]

I want to see if anyone can help me with this. I remember reading a comic or story or something about a scientist inventing a device that makes his wife disappear. That might not have been the exact story but it's something similar I think. Anyone know?

I don't think it's depressing, it's just quintessentially French.
>>
>>91778604
it deals with things like serial killers, loss of innocence, and the exploitation of prostitutes. seems dark enough for OP's request
>>
>>91778639
Well, the thing is, a lot of these are "bad things happen to good/innocent people", see OP. MDTM, I think, would be more depressing if the characters were innocent. But he titular character volunteers for the whatnots which occur, and most of the morality black people get what's coming to them. It is dark, but not depressing.

Most Chris Ware comics. While not explicitly dark, the themes they explore are certainly depressing.

Except Blanche's mother. That end is pretty depressing.

I don't really think something needs innocent characters suffereing to classify as being "dark". I wasn't the Anon who originally posted it but I think MDTM is pretty dark given the subject matter and how a lot of characters' stories end.

It was written by the same author who wrote When the wind blows.

More /a than /co, but it fits the request of the thread is a lot of Katsuhiro Otomo's works other than Akira. "Magnetic Rose", "Robot Carnival" and "second renaissance" all have a tragic atmosphere to them without falling into the pitfalls most anime suffer from. Magnetic Rose specifically is probably my favorite animation of all time, it's plot feels like something from a tragic piece of classic literature. Lain and Angel's Egg are also worth looking into for this.

I bought that years ago, read a little bit of it, then put it down and forgot about it. It wasn't until a few months ago that I finally picked it back up and read through the whole thing. It wasn't that it was bad or anything, it just requires a committed level of focus to appreciate. You can't halfheartedly skim it and get a good idea of what's going on, it has too much going on for too long.
I bought it the same time I bought Adrian Tomine's Summer Blonde. Black Hole was the better of the two.

Construction Cancellation Order might also qualify. Not necessarily tragic, but the atmosphere starts feeling pretty oppressive as time goes on.
