First 3 episodes were ABSOLUTE KINO, it had everything that I expected to see plus more. The action scenes were just amazing, the animation is too good, etc.
Episode 4 and 5 are going in a way that I don't really like. First, because they didn't have any good action scene, I thought the scene with the monster children was terrible, and even more the scene where Jack fights monsters with Ashi on his back. However, I really liked the fact that these 2 episodes were very "vintage" to Samurai Jack, they had themes that were similar to old episodes, like being inside a giant creature. Also, the "Aku city" enviroment, side characters and such were very, very faithful to what the old Samurai Jack was.

THat new season has many good things and some flaws, I think the good things make up for it. Greatest problem is the fact that Ashi is getting more and more importance, to the point where Jack probably will barely appear in the next episode. Also, I didn't like the fact that they introduced the Daughters of Aku as some final boss enemies, just to have Jack go all BLACKED on them in episode 3. The change of Ashi from bad to good was also very quick, but I understand it had to be like that for the show to have 10 episodes.

My favourite part of the season is the fact that it is very faithful to the past seasons. The trailers made it look like it would be a completely EDGY version of SJ, but it is basically the same show, just a little darker and now it has blood. Aku is still the same comic relief/evil lord; Jack is still a very powerful, unmatched character; goofy situations still happen, even when the scene is a little serious(like the Aku woman nightmare, Ashi screaming at Jack while tied in chains, and Jack saying "I like the back fur".)
Sincerely the best cartoon I have watched in a long time.

Btw, why did they change Jack's skin color? It has been bothering me.

This season's plot would have been a stretch with 13 episodes, only 10 is really forcing them to lower quality in order to hurry shit up.

Your complain rings hollow, there's been 4 seasons of "Absolutely nothing" in terms of story becouse the story was about Jack's adventures in the future of which none are necesary in the least to tell the story, none at all, all he had to do to progress the story is to kill Aku and get back to the past, a thing they can do in 1 or 2 episodes tops, anything else would be considerated filler since its not killing aku and getting back to the past, that's all the substance there was ever going to be, so stop pretending you were robbed of something grand and deep, people like the show becouse it had cool fights, good enough humor and the more adult audiense appreciate the artstyle and animation, any semblance of "Story progresion" was just another of Jack's adventures that seemed important and sometimes they get a callback, but not much than that

and Jack too, is a waste of time. 5 of 10 episodes in and we still don't know shit about what was Jack doing during those 50 years, why he lost contact with the Scotsman, what happened to his sword or who is the guy on the horse. unlike Jack, we learned more about the scotsman in his short appearance in ep5, he has lots of children and got himself an army, but then of course he dies and what happens next is just incredibly stupid.

The first episode was far better than anything else in this season, and the reason for that is that it was just like an old Samurai Jack episode, a cool and lovable villain, him fighting against hoards of monsters with some cool fighting scenes/effects, random alien race he saves and so on.

All other episodes after that has mostly just been focused on Ashi, only thing that has happened is that Ashi has had some character development...not actually Samurai Jack the character the show is all about.
The reason people complain about her getting so much showtime is that we finally after 10 years is going to get the end of the series with a short 10 episode season. People want to see Samurai Jack, not a new character that's just shoehorned in.
Even a fan favorite like the Scotsman barely even had time to appear because Ashi needs more screentime, we won't have any more cool villains like in EP 1 because that would take too much screentime from Ashi.


Point is SO MUCH is being compromised because of her, we could have gotten so much more if not for such a character.

If Jack returns to the past he will reverse everything that happened in the series. If he succeds and kills Aku in the past nothing he would do in the future would not matter. Why does he care what he does if his goal is to male that future not happen?
