Nearly all of her villainy comes from the Thrawn book, so I don't see how she'll be the last one fighting the remnants of Phoenix Squadron. I have a question. The Clone Wars, season 4, the arc where Obi-Wan goes undercover as a bounty hunter. It's a damn good story, but some things about it really bother me. Namely all the cool tech that doesn't really fit into the world of Star Wars, in my opinion.

Okay, I can forgive the Box - it's completely believable it exists, just not so much the fact that a bunch of outlaws would create and use something as fancy-looking as that, even with Dooku's backing.

But they completely change Obi-Wan's face and bone structure in like a few seconds. Wut. Since when does GFFA has such technology? Why don't we see it being used more often then? Why don't Vader/Snoke/any character with a scar or a deformation use it to fix themselves? Then there are the disguise holograms - non-transparent, realistic enough to fool people, and can even disguise bigger objects as smaller ones (e.g. it hid Embo's shield/hat). What is this, Doctor Who? How do they work, and again, why don't we see other people using them all the time?

From Rogue One we know the Death Star plans were never intended to go to Obi-Wan in the first place.

Bail's little meeting with Mon Mothma discussing Obi-Wan takes place right after the Rebel council meeting, long before they hear about any fighting taking place at Scarif. It wasn't anything to do with the plans directly, it was sending Leia out to contact him in order to gain any advantage they could over the Empire in light of hearing about the Death Star.

So in other words, he's sending his adoptive daughter, who he knows is the offspring of a powerful Force wielder, out to contact one of the last properly trained Jedi knights that he knows is still alive at this point. I think it's pretty obvious what his intentions were here.

The only reason Leia ended up with the Rebel fleet at all was because the Tantive IV was damaged at some point and ended up being docked with Raddus' flagship to be repaired. Whilst they were still docked, Raddus is informed of an asskicking taking place on Scarif and immediately sends his fleet out to bust some bucketheads, dragging Leia along for the ride. It's not until close to the end of the battle that the Tantive is ready to set off again, which helpful allows the plans to taken away from the crippled flagship and out of Vader's hands.

Leia was never meant to deliver the plans. It was just a case of her being the right woman in the wrong place.

Maybe it was just the will of the Force. Fuck it, who knows.

I kind of prefer it like this, objectively the X-Wing is the better multi-role fighter so it makes it feel like a huge upgrade and part of what gives the Rebel alliance the confidence to start standing up properly rather than just constantly making hit and run attacks
That and I kind of like the implication (as confirmed in the Ashoka novel) that the Phoenix Squadron A-wings are old Clone Wars stock scared up from some forgotten scrap heap, because that's the kind of gear the early Rebels should be relying on
Plus its always cool when you realize that something that was old when the Empire was new is still flying and capable of holding its own over 40 years later when Lulo flew his against the First Order

To be honest I only really posted it because I wanted to bring up the idea of Bail sending Leia out to be trained as a Jedi, which I thought was pretty interesting.

Plus as others have already said there's already good reasons why they'd want to contact Obi-Wan even within the context of just what we know from ANH. He's a trained Jedi knight and commander whos great experience could be valuable to the Rebellion, as well as someone trusted by Leia's family.

The main thing I hated about prequel duels was the lack of weight behind the swings. Everyone was flipping and twirling and spinning their lightsaber around like a wushu demonstration. Lightsaber duels should be more like samurai film. They should be slower more deliberate with real force behind every swing. That's why I think tfa duel was going in the right direction.
