Between Grayson Kamandi and a reprint Ennis punisher omnibus coming this year as well as more rebirth trades coming then in the pass I feel like I might spend more on comics this year than compared to any other

my 2nd GL omni is kind of falling apart already and I'm just halfway through. there was probably a corner not properly glued and it unravelled all the rest of the stuff inside the spine. glued it together again, but that's probably just temporary.

>>91720333
>reprint Ennis punisher omnibus
is this a fever dream and wishful thinking on your part or is it confirmed?
I'd be kind of mad since I just bought the trade collections.
also nice trips
>>
>>91720333
Yeah I've easily spent more this year than ever before.
But I live alone and got a pay raise, so it is kind of to be expected.

Well bummer, I just realized how thin the Marvel omnis are, I've become so used to those thick DC ones.
The Annihilation: Conquest omni for example is exactly as thick as the Crisis on Infinite Earths Deluxe Edition, but according to all sources the Conquest Omni has way more pages (COIE has 496 pages vs A:C's 872) so that means they're on way thinner paper.
Whoops, didn't use The Flash.

>>91721646
actually the same here and there's still a lot of pre-ordered stuff incoming. Adam Strange Omni, Kamandi Omni, lots of LoSH stuff, Thor Omni, Conan TPBs, Superman Reborn and Rebirth Deluxe, JLI Omni, Harley Quinn Omni even pre-ordered the 4th World all-in-one Omni, but will probably cancel that one
>>
>>91721798
I'm in this weird transition where I'm used to grabbing stuff when cheap. Meaning mostly paperback and sometimes preowned.
But now I'm wanting to grab whole run hardback Omnis but I'm in some sort of weird transition period where I still eye those super cheap ESSENTIALS paperbacks or lessthan$5 clearance trades I've never heard for but "looks good enough for $3".
>>
>>91721798
How many issues does all those F4s collect?

Making the Y look thin and I've seen those Y paperbacks they ain't small.
>>
>>91720636
Yeah got announced a week after I got welcome back frank. It's coming out in September.
>>
>>91722047
About 500-600 pg each
>>
>>91721880
if there are no omnis or HCs of them then for that price I'd grab them as well, nothing wrong with that.
you'd end up hurting though if THAT ONE trade is missing and you look around and it's out of print and after market prices are at $50 and more.

>>91721922
it's all of Lee/Kirby's run. Vol 1 collects 01-30 + Annual 01 (848 pages), Vol 2 collects 31-60, Annuals 02-04 and Not Brand Echh 01 (832 pages) and Vol 3 collects 61-93, Annuals 05-07 and Not Brand Echh 05-07 (952 pages).
Seriously, that last one is so fucking thin compared to the 2nd GL omni, which has almost the same amount of pages, I'm afraid the quality will be so fucking shit when I open them it's going to be instant buyer's remorse.
I'll just open the 1st one now and check it out.

>>91722198
Ah well, sucks. Not going to change that up now, Marvel already jewed enough out of me.
>>
>>91722494
The Kirby fantastic four omnis are all really good condition so you don't need to worry marvel just uses a different paper thickness recently compared to dc so that it's easier to read bigger books. If you look at the original Kirby fantastic four omnibus it's a monster due to the paper thickness

oh boy, off to a great start already...
left is the inside of the dust jacket, right is the front cover of the actual FF Vol 1 omni, the color of the cover went onto the inside of the dust jacket and the supposedly black cover looks like someone spillt milk or cum over it at that part.
I can deal with that though and the rest of the omni looks all right. as already mentioned the paper is way thinner than from most DC omnis or even Deluxe Editions, but it's actually the same sturdy kind paper so no buyer's remorse.
>>
>>91722680
Wow that's a new one I've never seen that with an omnibus before usually it's a spine issue like with the Duggan deadpool 1st printings or pages have the corners folded over during the binding process which has happens a lot more than people think. I use to work at a comic shop for a year before moving house and almost every time a shipment that included omnis came in we found some that had bent pages

Just came here to see if there's a shelf thread up specifically to let anyone interested know that you can get the first two Claremont X-Men omnibi for £43.something each, which is a fucking bargain.

Came across them by accident on eBay then ordered them from their own site since that knocks off the eBay fees and brings down the price by another quid.

I'd used the site once about a year ago then forgot about it. Seems like they've never got much in stock at one time, you've just got to get lucky with when you check.

>is this a fever dream and wishful thinking on your part or is it confirmed?
>I'd be kind of mad since I just bought the trade collections.

If you're talking about the recent complete collections, this omnibus is the 616-universe Punisher stuff he did, not MAX.
>>
>>91721798
>>91721922
>That basically the whole run?

It's actually missing 94-102, which Kirby pencilled, which is annoying because those aren't enough issues to put in a third omnibus volume, wish they'd have just chucked them in the last volume. Kind of puts me off buying the three volumes knowing I'm missing the end of the run, and it can't be bought in the same oversized format.

The first half is Rege's comic version of "highlights from Madame Blavatsky's Secret Doctrine"! And it's dedicated to Alvin Buenaventura and Genevieve Castree, which I thought was lovely. And the title is invisible until you catch it in a certain light but the lettering's raised up so you can feel the letters. Lovely little touch, Fanta really go the extra mile. And the Secret Doctrine stuff is on yellow paper, the last third is in purple. It's a beautiful object.

Just about finished Ennis' Punisher MAX (just read the arc with the mob wives), really loved it all the way through. Particularly liked the first story with the Russians, even though it wasn't typical Punisher fare - felt like Metal Gear.

Slowly working my way through Carl Bark's Donald Duck/Uncle Scrooge stuff.

IST, Thriftbooks, and Retrofit all arrived on the same day. Fun.

A bit disappointed with Retrofit's packaging and their shipping was a bit slow, but the comics are nice. Still waiting on Scurry, which finally shipped and should be here by Friday, and the Star Vs. comic, along with The Incal, which I tossed in that order. I think that's all I'm still waiting for, at least. I'm bad at remembering.

What should I read first?

Cheers m8

I've been getting right into Supergirl lately with all the trades they've been putting out. 2005 series, Daring Adventures and the Peter David stuff all being rereleased is great.

Assume it's because of the TV show, which I keep meaning to get around to watching too.
>>
>>91750991
Butter And Blood, good choice Anon. Have you read much more of Weissman's work, like his old Yikes comics? He was in Marbles! Gilbert Hernandez's short-lived kids anthology from Fanta, that was a good little comic. Also, She-Wolf is cool, I dig Rich Tommasso a lot, really hyped for Spy Seal. Never ordered directly from Retrofit but I have a few of their books, I got that nice Sophie Franz mini The Experts recently and Lovers In The Garden by Anya Davidson which is ace, they also put out the most beautiful comic I've ever read, Mowgli's Mirror by Olivier Schwauren. Is the Kochalka book Retrofit, too? Never liked him that much but I really have a soft spot for The Cute Manifesto, such a comfy little comic. Can't make out who Late Bloomer is by--stealing Carol Tyler's titles is not cool, man!
I applaud your catholic taste, Anon.

Those are all first time reads for both the comics themselves, and the authors in general. I'm just getting more into smaller press stuff. My only other super indie order was from Domino Books a few months back, Mimi and the Wolves 1-3 and Rudy, which I loved enough that I decided to get more into it. Unless you count And Then Emily Was Gone or Duncan the Wonder Dog in the same vein. And the Kocahlka is Retrofit too, yeah.

Oh okay, thanks. Is Mimi And The Wolves the comic with the really embroidered, decorative drawing style, I think the author's just called "Alabaster" or something? Maybe I'm getting massively confused but if it's what I'm thinking of what I've seen of it has me really intrigued (I think I follow the cartoonists tumblr). Good for you for getting into small(er) press stuff. I love people who are open-minded enough to step out of their comfort zones, in anything, really, but especially comics. Doesn't mean I don't like people who aren't, though, nobody get their knicker in a twist, please (not you dude).
I really like Uncivilized Books, the cartoonist Tom Kaczynski's imprint. His own stuff's worth reading (he's been published by Fanta), really clever, conceptually-driven comics that explore lots of interesting ideas. He puts out French stuff, like David B's Incidents In The Night (which I really recommend), minicomics, he's put out Elijah Brubaker's first GN (who did the great, under-discussed comic bio of the psychologist Wilhelm Reich, just called Reich, which was originally published by Sparkplug but is being re-printed by Alternative Comics, totally recommend that, too), James Romberger, Laura Park...if I'm thinking of the same Mimi and The Wolves I think you'll be open to the stuff I've mentioned. I also dig Koyama Press, Nobrow, Secret Acres and the dearly departed Sparkplug Comics and Alvin Buenaventura's noble foray's into publishing, Buenaventura Books then Pigeon Press. Oh Adhouse are putting out one of the best New Alternative Floppies, Pope hats by Ethan Rilly, great comic.

I've never read Duncan...but I hear a lot of good things about it.

>>
>>91754115
I don't actually know how that got into that comment! Bits and bobs. They have the softcover of Debbie Drechsler's Summer of Love which I really want, I have the hardback and the original floppies but the HC uses a different two colours to the floppies (which were a really nice dark brown and a beige), for some reason they went with this awful teal and and dark green. But the softcover is printed with the original brown and beige, for some reason.

BILLYs are sturdy as fuck, if you're lucky you can keep it for a lifetime. FINNBY are cheap, but almost as sturdy. the material they used for it looks a bit thinner though. I own both kinds so I know what I'm talking about.
Some people here enjoy the KALLAX system, but I don't particularly like it, the width/height ratio is exactly 13 inches, which won't let you fit in any oversize books (Absolutes, some indie stuff etc) and they have an open back (I also own a KALLAX so I know what I'm talking about).
Dunno about your local IKEA but they also started selling BILLYs with glass doors, maybe take a look at them, pic related for €129 here.

>Oh okay, thanks. Is Mimi And The Wolves the comic with the really embroidered, decorative drawing style, I think the author's just called "Alabaster" or something?
Yeah, that's it. One of my favorite. Really nice girl (I think) too. I ordered a print off of her and asked if she was re-printing Wool and Gin ever. She said not officially, but printed me off a copy since I was nice and a paying customer.

Duncan's super fun, but if you're on the fence, I miiiiight wait until at least the second volume comes out, if it ever does. It's a bit of a blueball on its own, though it's good enough for the bits when the bombers are on the run,
hiding in strange houses. Great atmosphere.

I really need to get over my flaw of preferring only shit that's actually bound. I'm sure I'm missing out on a ton of really cool 'zines and such.

Dude you've convinced me to get it , just ordered it from my closest "LCS", the first two volumes, anyhow. Yeah, I got the vibe from her (?) tumblr that she's a girl. I just love the fact that she has one of those styles where there is absolutely no mistaking who it is, she's so distinctive. That's (to me) one of the signs of a great cartoonist. The art is gorgeous. I love that it has a certain, not flatness, just (like I wrote before) a decorative quality, similar to how David B's work has a decorative quality and yet there are no wasted marks, no unnecessary rendering, everything is "just so". Not sure if she 's into David B. but I see similarities in that almost "embroidered", tapestry-like style. Alabaster is wicked , I've taken the plunge and drunk the Kool-Aid, thanks Anon, I like you, man.
>>
>>91758230
>>91758270
Double-posting, sorry, I think I read some when it was storytimed on here (Duncan..., I mean). I didn't get very far, I remember the monkey talking to the tiger (?) when they're all in the cages, having kind of philosophical discussions, I thought that part was cool but to be honest I wasn't massively into the drawing. I think it was because it had an endearing sort of , not scrappy quality, but a style where the artist's hand was very visible, it was a bit "rough around the edges" and Ithink all the fancy-schmancy digital tones, effects and colours diminished the impact of the rather nice drawings for me. I remember the page breakdowns ("panelling", as /co/ likes to call it) being really effective too.
I also seem to remember a part where one animal is retelling some sort of fable to another animal, which I thought was a cool sequence.

I use Book Depository, it's got free shipping and ends up being cheaper than LCS, but it doesn't keep much in stock outside of the mainstream Marvel and DC stuff, and a small amount of indie works.

However buying second-hand is always the cheapest way to get stuff no matter where you live, so if you're looking for something always check eBay and Gumtree first.

both shelves are strong as fuck, they'll hold anything. and if you still aren't sure, don't forget FINNBY's middle shelf is built into the shelf itself (you aren't able to change its height, it's screwed in), so that's the strongest part of the whole unit.

What Legion would be you recommend? Never read any.
>>
>>91792701
Best parts of Legion are during the mid-1970 until mid 1980s, then the so called threeboot (which is Vol 5) until Shooter ruins it, Superman and the Legion of Super Heroes towards Final Crisis: Legion of 3 Worlds (which runs through Action Comics 858-863 plus the bridging issue of AC 864, then Legion of 3 Worlds 01-05 and bits and pieces of this and that.

I STILL haven't finished my complete Legion recommendation pic with entry points.
Right now I'd recommend that Action Comics stuff for you to see if you like it at all since it is very accessible (Threeboot would be even more so but it's a reboot that juggles apart all the usual Legion interactions and history so you'd start from false pretenses).
If you like it, compare it to the first silver age stuff (you can conveniently get Archive number 1 on libgen etc plus archives 9-13).
I promise I'll come around and get a recommendation pic done this week together with a few other personal projects I procrastinated for quite some time, honest...
>>
>>91793062
there should have been a ")" behind "then Legion of 3 Worlds 01-05"

>>91785147
I know right? If anything, I wish her character design was more consistent during the one-shots, but I guess having a different artist each time would change that. This is going to sound crude, but I wish her breasts would have stayed remotely the same size per artist, especially since she was apparently designed off a real person
