Anyone remember this show? Think it could have a nice reboot? They've got a lot of material to work with, I don't think it'd be so bad if they aired it on FX or something. Might even be great.

I actually had a badass idea for a mini series that followed a group of mercenaries drawn from the various inner sphere principalities to combat the Clans and their genetically enhanced pilots by COMSTAR for the battle of Tukayyid. It basically follows the battle, but has a focus on the interactions between the various factions of both the inner sphere mech jockeys and clanners.

That sounds like something I'd like to watch. Would it have been traditionally animated and mixed CG in, or would it be straight CG through and through?

Animated with CG I think. You really can't skirt around using computer generation these days.

Lame, but I suppose the art direction could fix it.
I'd just like some Fluff in the Battletech universe. Have a TV Show where someone's a Mercenary with flashbacks or memories of their childhood on like, Dante or whatever. Or some farming planet where they worked with all sorts of futuretech.

Well yeah, you gotta tell the backgrounds of the Mercs in question, but that's what sells them as human as opposed to clans who are literally bred for war in tanks and conditioned to fight and die.
Its the fact that they are human and that their experiences as free born is what makes them to some extent more capable warriors.

I went for an idea like that for my character on the early days of MWO. Back before I knew the game would be shit.

I'd prefer old school Succession Wars or World War Wobbie to yet another Clan Invasion rehash.
You know what would work? A netflix series. They like making stuff like that, whether live action or cartoon.
I don't know about you but I dont' give a fuck about the fluff. Just give me big ass robots with double ER PPCS venging all their heat sinks in a blazing slugfest.

I recently started reading the original book series. They could easily do a bunch of miniseries with those. Especially with the Grey Death ones.

The original is the wargame and sourcebooks. They go together with the novels fleshing out specific things. Still going on to this day.

I watched this a few years back and as terrible as it was, I just couldn't bring myself to hate it. Sure it looked awful and was poorly written and had a lot of really really stupid moments, but... I dunno, mechs are cool.

As long as it's not anything Dark Age or later, I'd be happy.
The Clan invasion would be really cool if they set it up right. Drop some Star League lore here and there as the various factions of the Inner Sphere receive more and more reports of these mysterious and crazy OP invaders come in, only to have the truth of their origins drop at some big climactic moment half way through the series. Maybe spend a few episodes gating used to some of the better IS mechs and technology only to have them get completely rolled over during their first confrontation with a Madcat.

Ah. I was unaware of that. I was first introduced to the novel series with Decision at Thunder Rift after I had played MW2:Mercs for a few months. Although I never fully read it until a few months ago. I had read some sections near some of the illustrations of the 'Mechs. I was 12 at the time and would rather play the game than read.
