Did they ever explain why Dick stopped being Batman? It wasn't

Dick couldn't cut it.

And he only operated as Batman while Batman was back for a brief amount of time (because real Batman was laying low).

He never really wanted to be Batman in the first place and said multiple times that he'd immediately go back to being Nightwing once Bruce came back. Then Bruce was like "Jim and the other cops prefer you." so Dick stayed Batman for a little longer.

Then Barry Allen fucked up the universe and Dick was suddenly Nightwing again.

Dick was always reluctant to be Batman. I have a feeling once Bruce came back, he was just counting the time until he could be Nightwing again.

I'm sure even Morrison would say it was because of the New 52.

Dick knows the mantle is his to wear when Bruce dies. He doesn't want it but he knows he must take it. He even said as such in the first issue of Grayson. He's seen the fallout with no Batman and he is Bruce's chosen heir to the cowl.
