The show just had a really generally depressing tone to it. That's as much as I can remember. The episode that stood out to me the most was the one where Ginger was shown as a doll being produced at a factory, all in black and white.

And then she was gone ...

Word of god says Courtney had gay feelings for Ginger.

In an alternate universe, in that episode where Darren confessed his cheating to Ginger and Ginger went home in tears, after Dodie and Macie visit, Courtney visits and she's the only one who can actually sort of comfort Ginger. She wants to tell Ginger about her true feelings but knows that she shouldn't do it because it's too soon after Darren. Courtney instead asks Ginger if she wants her to stay for a while and Ginger nods. Courtney is about to doze off in a chair next to Ginger's bed when she realizes that Ginger is in serious medical trouble and Courtney is the one who tells Ginger's mom about Ginger's acute appendicitis attack, saving her life.

The next three episodes are about Courtney dealing with her conflicted feelings for Ginger. Then, in the finale after Courtney's family goes broke, Ginger finally realizes that Courtney likes her. Ginger contemplates getting back together with Darren, but in the end, she realizes she likes Courtney too and the two kiss passionately in the women's restroom at Lois and Dr. Dave's wedding reception.

Then the flash-forward shows Ginger and Courtney married as adults with two adopted kids.

If only this series had come out in 2020 instead of 2000.

I've thought about this many times with other pieces of media I enjoy, but I have no idea where to start learning how to not be shit at writing (not that fanfiction is something with a high barrier of entry but still)

On top of this english isn't even my first language, but since literally all media I consume is in english I have this strong autistic urge to write in it instead of my native language which would probably also decrease the overall quality.
Though especially with fanfiction I guess it's for the best, I doubt I could find any readers if I wrote it for my fellow people inkazakh.

Man I fucking love this show. Any of the episodes that took place in the fall will always relax me so with it's comfy vibes.

I think as a young boy watching this it gave welcome insight about girls or at least their issues in being tweens. And it dealt w/ some heavy topics for both sexes.

Pepper Ann was more comedic than ATBG, it didn't take itself quite as seriously. Which is one of Ginger's problems; it took realism and slice-of-life to the extreme and completely forgot how to have fun or be a cartoon. That's not to say it's a bad show by any means, you can tell they put a lot of TLC into it, especially in switching up the characters' outfits rather than have them wear the same clothing in every episode, even though that took more time/money. But writing-wise, it's not really what I'm looking for in a cartoon.

I disagree with the term problem because at no point did Ginger change it's narrative direction, it was always about the struggles of a teenage girl and how these struggles affected her and the people around her. This is like saying LotR has problems because you didn't like that elves appeared later in its fantasy setting.
