Marvel is looking to adapt more Cosmic properties, Gunn said Marvel Studios were looking into Nova and Markus and Mcfeely expressed an interest in writing about Rich.

Feige hates Perlmutter and isn't that fond of Loeb who is a big Perlmutter kiss up and backed Ian up during the split. Now if they were to have Sam in the MCU movies that would mean Loeb gets royalties so Feige would never want that.

So it's more likely that if they make a movie it's going to be about Rich since even Gunn who doesn't care about him supports the idea of doing a movie about him (although he said he wouldn't direct it) and you got Markus and Mcfeely who would probably be willing to do a treatment and maybe the whole script.

After you have something that really resonates with what people like about that character you can't just go back to the basics.

I recall Loeb saying that he did Sam (aside from being a tribute to his son) because at the core Nova should be a teenager and since Rich had grown up and was dead he wanted to do that with Sam. Also pretty much everyone that liked Rich pre-Annihilation agrees that the character grew up and got better once he went space full time.

No one wants to see the teenage drama again especially on a cosmic book, heck even Duggan limited the high school stuff when he wrote Sam's comic and people liked most of the cosmic stuff they did.

What they should have done was a primarily a comic focused on Rich with Sam joining him on occasions or just do two seperate books with the occasional crossover but Marvel doesn't want to support Rich and the only reason they halfheartedly do with Sam is because of Loeb.

I'm surprised Rich fucking came out of it semi coherent and still was brave enough to throw himself into that hellhole again meanwhile Ben Reilly turned into a shitty supervillain when the Jackal tortured him.
