Its a very safe traditional Disney product, the plot goes the exact same way as it did in their other previous movies. And predictability can get tedious.

Disney has stopped being a pioneer of its craft, they release only safe "princess products" these days with pop songs and tons of princess merchandise for the little kids. Only thing new they really bring to the table with each movie is better 3d effects and physics engines. Frozen was a boring mediocre film but theres no denying its snow physics really were amazing.

1. Boring characters. Both of them look disgusting. Moana look generic at best.

2. Entire boring plotline on the fucking boat

3. Rehashed backstories. Moana is an Ariel rip off

4. Jokes are flat or trying to be meta

5. Songs were horrible, so forgetable and not catchy at all. They were mostly spewing exposition in most cases.

The laughable part is that it seems they tried to build hype by building up intrigue. The Rock doing a voice of one of the major characters. Anyone sssociated with the movie would say anything except that "it's awesome & we'll love it." A couple of months before release no one had a clear idea what the movie was really about and virtually no promotional images released.

The big fucking mystery movie was a letdown for all the reasons you've mentioned.

The problem with the music in Moana is that the songs aren't timeless, and wont be remembered 15yrs from now. Same problem with Frozen. The songs are generic disposable, flavor of the moment bubble gum pop.
