99/100 times a movie won't have the guts to show one of the main characters end up not achieving their goal.

Though through the movie we see that Emily has grown, she's more comfortable with her position and she got a measure of revenge against the guy who murdered her. She's also genuinely happy for the other protagonists. It's bittersweet.

It's also a good lesson, to little girls and boys who might be watching, that marriage is not the be-all end-all. Sometimes personal growth is just as rewarding and there are a lot of fish out there, so you don't have to fall to pieces by fixating on one person.

But hats off to the writers for having the courage to do what they did with the story and still make something very enjoyable.

Do we ever see Emily in anything other than the wedding dress? I admit the neckline is very low but that was an acceptable thing among the upper class then, and you could find it in wedding dresses. For some of the time the bride also walks with a long veil covering their front, so the exposure of the chest is hidden until the veil is lifted. And she only shows so much leg because the dress is conveniently torn, it's not supposed to be that revealing.
