After the crisis is over he realizes he likes being a hero and chooses to officially enlist, becoming the first Terran Nova.

It's surprisingly easy and would require three lines of exposition, since the bigger plot would be covered in the Avengers movies.

Not while Gunn is directing but Gunn said he's not oppose to him having a movie (he said he didn't hate him but that he wasn't a big fan) and that Marvel studios has considered him as a future property for Cosmic Marvel since Marvel Studios wants to expand on the MCU's Cosmic side after GotG's success.
