I'm glad you're not writing for this show. The entire point was to show how both the army and him were hopelessly outclassed and powerless against Aku. That's why Aku just insta-kills that one long column of soldiers and then casually disintegrates the Scotsman after being taunted by him. It would be retarded to have the Scotsman kill a bunch of people because that would undermine the purpose of that scene to make you realize facing Aku is absolutely certain death if you come at him with anything less than Jack's sword.

Your complaint is like if you wanted Rorschach to beat up Manhattan and kill Ozymandias before finally getting disintegrated. That's stupid, the drama is in having a guy who knows he's powerless and about to be killed standing up for what he believes in anyway and dying like a man.

I think his problem (and mine with it too) was how quick it was. I know Aku is practically invincible but I at least wanted to see some well animated scenes of soldiers trying to fight off Aku. Scene makes sense, I'm not arguing that. I just need to stop going into these episodes with any sort of expectation because Genndy doesn't write how I think.

Feels to me like they were constrained with having the Scotsman age because 50 years passed, but they also needed something to at least bring him back to his prime so they used "magic"

He'll probably hang around as a ghost for a while, then at a climax will materialise and a young Scotsman in his prime to fight with Jack against an Aku horde, then after the fight he'll say goodbye to Jack, and his sword will shatter at that moment

Personally I think it would've been more effective if Scotsman's army fought flawlessly against an army of beetle-bots or whatever. Just something that's always there to protect Aku's lair.

And when Aku finally appears, have him overpower them just like he did in the episode. Basically, there would be a contrast that more strongly articulates just how powerful Aku is, even compared with his own forces.

I mean, just imagine a long ass battle where it's clear Scotsman and his army can totally kick ass because they've been preparing for that war for years. But of course, only to have all of their efforts be completely in vain the moment Aku appears.

Well, becoming a blue ghost is actually an ideal state for him to be mobile and participate in the story, rather than geriatric and wheelchair-bound. Outside any other consideration, this development lets him participate in the story in a more prominent way than a cameo.

It also demonstrates that one of the only other recurring badass characters in the series was absolutely powerless against Aku, even with an army behind him. This ups the stakes for Jack to find his sword, since it's the only thing that can actually do anything to Aku at all.

So, dual purpose, I suppose. Ashi's narrative only makes sense as an observer of Jack and her outside perspective, tinted by being raised as a cult fanatic. She will likely function in the narrative to assist in bringing Jack back from the brink, since even Jack's own psyche wants him to kill himself. He'll need outside help to convince him to do otherwise.

They could have had him be mostly cybered-up, so when Aku blasts him (because he still would), he would be blown to bits and his daughters would need to repair him.
