I don't think this surprised anyone except maybe Freddie. Honestly I think it stems from all shows having a life cycle, an ebb and flow of popularity and even real world shit can get in the way as it did for TCWs. So while Dave has stories for all of this stuff, no doubt, seasons and seasons worth, from his perspective, and his hat's, that's fine because he can always adapt and adopt it later on in whatever he's doing next just as he did with some TCW stories showing up, in bits and pieces, in Rebels.

It's safe to say there will always be room for Star Wars animated as long as Disney indulges.

Honestly the BF2 was the most exciting for me, they seemed to learn their lesson there.

I don't think so. Even TCWs, as popular as it still was at the end, was missing its target audience and failing to bring in the little kids. So by calling Rebels now and ending it on his own terms they can then start with a new series, new interest and hype and carry one while recycling unused ideas and bringing back fan favorite characters.

So I'm watching The Clone Wars, just finished the Umbara arc.

1. The Umbarans have so much advanced technology, and some clones even began learning how to use it. Logically, the Republic/Empire should assimilate and probably even mass produce all that cool stuff. But I don't remember seeing any of it in any of the stories set after that. How do they explain this?

2. Is it ever explained how did the traitorous general learn about the "New Order" coming and Dooku now hiring an apprentice?

reverse engineering is hard. Also, one of the minor themes in star wars is that war brings down the tech level of society (despite really being the opposite irl). We see this a lot in legends but also in the contrast of the prequel trilogy's elegance and high-class tech compared to the more bare bones and practicality of the OG.

Well, it was pretty effective against the clones, so we know it's quite good. A lot of that shit withstood rocket launchers and only got destroyed when the clones managed to use the Umbarans' own weapons against them.
Good point about being unable to mass produce it. Still, it would make sense to see at least some of those salvaged fighters and walkers (crawlers?) in the future.

As for the Jedi, I was thinking Sheev got to him somehow. It makes sense considering Palpatine himself recalled Anakin to Coruscant, who was immediately conveniently replaced by this traitor.

Going by Wikipedia, the lowest viewer count TCW ever had was 1.35 million, for "Mercy Mission" in season 4. All other episodes had more viewers, usually around 2 million, and the season 1 finale broke 3 million.

Rebels absolute highest viewer count on a normal episode was 1.03 million for Droids in Distress. Season 2 crested at .69 million for the finale. Season 3, .57 for Ghosts of Geonosis Part 2.

It's important to note that there are confounding factors here. TCW was on Cartoon Network, which is basic cable, while Rebels is on Disney XD, which is a premium channel. It's normal to have lower viewership on a premium channel because far fewer people have it. It's also true that people watch TV differently nowadays; live viewing is a lot less popular than it used to be, and a lot of people just buy the seasons on Amazon or whatever to watch them, so that cuts into it too. These numbers aren't as bad as they look.

But they're still pretty bad.

Speaking personally, this absolutley isn't what Rebels or Star Wars need.

The ST is obsessed with the idea that everything the original heroes did was ineffective and totally undone. The last rebels episodes were all about how that team can essentially eat shit because Ben and everyone else is just waiting for Luke to fix problems that we know never stay fixed. Rogue One was about a bunch of people who die at the end for that thing that also just repeats itself later anyway.

I think it really will be the end of the jedi and the beginning of some new type of force user. If they're smart about this the next two films could really dive into themes of forbidden/banned knowledge versus education and approaching things with an open mind. The reason the Jedi and the Sith keep fighting is because both sides are white and black, you're either with or against. Very few force users, if any, in the canon actually consider the idea that you can be both and learn both sides of it while still being a decent person. So people that want to learn the Dark Side just get completely overwhelmed by it rather than having measured training.

In some ways Ben could be the perfect jumping off point for this new order, assuming Snoke doesn't completely wipe away everything good within him.
