I liked Peridot when she was a neurotic, clinical scientist out of her element who had to learn how to function outside of her comfort zone and was faced with a world that contradicted her beliefs.

Now she's just a one-dimensional character trait played for laughs like everyone else on the show. Hers is "autism."

When Jasper got out of Malachite she was stranded alone and out of her element just like Peridot was, except she had also just gotten fusion raped for several months on end and was seemingly going a bit insane and needing to face off against 5 different gems who were capable of fusing with each other to become stronger. She never stood a chance alone and I don't know why they fucked up with the corruption army subplot so hard, since that actually had a lot of potential as the big final conflict for Season 3.

Instead of letting the corrupted gems be a bunch of strong competent allies for Jasper to use to make her seem more threatening, they were written to be retarded and incompetent and not want to listen to her, which just made Jasper look even more pathetic.

If there's anything I realized in all this, the writers do not have the skill to redeem villains because said villains end up just standing around with literally nothing to do and no further development. Lapis and Peridot went from fairly interesting to one note joke characters. It's almost jarring looking back at their debut episodes.

A damn shame Rebecca Sugar's career had to end like this. Her very first show and she blows it all.
