I was reading a comic, and as a bunch of super powered dudes with long careers got killed off in a few pages, it occurred to me... If dying in comics can be as sudden and unexpected as it is in real life, then how the hell does anyone have a long career under their belt? On the other hand, if it's not... How can these loldeaths even happen?
Mortality in cape comics feels off.

Because comics don't exist.
Their rules are malleable, therefore you could literally destroy Earth, strand a hero on the moon for 5 issues, and then bring Earth back and the next issue will be a crossover where he and a teen hero go eat falaffel.
If it serves the narrative purpose of the author, its going to happen no matter how ridiculous it seems to us.

I don't know, man. It kinda breaks verisimilitude or something. Feels like nothing matters if you ain't going to hold onto the rules you put into place.

>if you ain't going to hold onto the rules you put into place
There are no rules. There are the confines of your editorial, besides that writers can do whatever.
I'm not supporting this, mind you, I'm just saying that's how it is. Its up to the reader to decide if they find the stories worth their time.

>There are no rules.
Seems like a terrible way to tell stories.

Its why its capeshit, the lowest form of storytelling.

There are probably some with short careers. You just don't hear about them because they're so short.

What's the image from? And cape comics are awful when it comes to tension, cause there's never any. They always get brought back for more issues. And it makes sense why it happens but it still sucks.

they make comic where people live terrible live and die sudden deaths, they are called news papers and they are in even bigger decline than comics.

That's Spider-Man's daughter from Renew Your Vows.

Real people don't have long careers of constant action. People in armies see battle only a handful of times in their lives. Those who engage in constant struggle die in a few years, ending up with short careers.
>itt: why does batman and his batfamily still exist
On a more serious note, I think comics have a severe lack of rape or, at the very least, nudity
Do all these characters just magically have indestructible clothing or something

>I think comics have a severe lack of rape
Every flagship DC character has been raped at least once.

Are you counting that brainwashed porno with Supes?
Is it rape if Barda didn't want to do it and was forced into it herself?

Considering that some wars go on for years, they can survive quite a lot. I think the problem is that you think those heroes perform for decades or something. Batman himself has no more than 5-10 years on his career, and he was one of the first ones.
Anyway, people tried to kill Fidel Castro literally his entire life. Preparation goes a long way.
