Moreso than anything else, I think by far the biggest sin of the DCEU is what they've done with Cavill.

He's genuinely warm and charming in interviews and other movies. Why do they force him to be this overburdened plank of wood?
>>
>>91514086
He is very emotional, I'm sorry the only emotion you can see is cartoon happiness

>He is very emotional
Come on now.
>>
>>91514086
He's shown emotion like compassion, humor, sadness and anger throughout MoS and BvS. Sorry you chose to ignore that to join in on the DCEU hate meme
>>
>>91514976
>humor
Oh, man, how I laughed when he trashed the truck of that guy that humilliated him!
>>
>>91515585
Everyone did. Except people with autism.
>>
>>91514086
Because Snyder is literally a fucking hack that only likes superman when he looks angry with glowy red eyes. He looks at pictures of random comics and picks out things that look cool on paper. He couldn't give a fuck about characterization or personality. He knows how to make a scene look pretty, that's it.
>>
>>91515585
"I don't know how to lose."
"You'll learn."

But yeah, cherry pick bits you want so you can damn him. The truck part wasn't even supposed to be funny
>>
>>91514148
Man of Steel gave him some decent bits of happiness and emotion, but BVS almost completely did away with it. Not to mention the majority of the film was him moping about with no goal in sight. You can cherry-pick moments to make him seem likable, or funny, but the fact is that most of the run time was spent with Cavill making the "stern-hero" face while trying to look interested in whatever boring shit was playing out on screen. You could just as easily say "Spider-Man is a dark, brooding hero" because he frowned a bit in Civil War. It would have about the same amount of truth as saying Superman is a nuanced, emotional character in BVS because he smiled once.
>>
>>91515722
That part wasn't funny, it was an edgy kids idea of a cool one-liner. Besides, that moment clearly read as more intimidating than humorous.
>>
He'll be fine in the soft reboot with Matthew Vaughn
>>
>>91517088
Probably intended as a whole karma thing, but it would have been better if it was shown his tires were melted with heat vision. The destruction of his truck probably cost him so much money for pouring a drink on Clark.
>>
>>91517495
The truck's insurance is easily covered by the company. No one owns their own truck dumbass.
>>
>>91517088
it was funny to me
>>
>>91514352
>cherry picking

and even in that he looks deeply disappointed. Are you autistic?
>>
>>91517704
How do you explain what happened to that truck to the Insurance, though? It's not like you just hand over your busted truck and're all "Here, have a new one!"
>>
That's not really true, OP. Cavill displays a range of emotions in those movies: He shows himself sad, angry, confused, hopeless, despondent...
>>
>>91515722
Name a single moment in which Cavill contributed with a second of levity, in the whole 70 hours of MoS and BvS.
>>
>>91517731
"Wow, literally everyone in the room just died. My superhuman olfactory and visual senses allow me to see, on every conceivable level, that these were normal, unassuming innocents who were murdered in cold blood. Kinda sucks."
>>
He should just have flipped the truck over without damaging it
>>
It'd mostly to do by the fact that Snyder doesn't develop characters, sure they reach from point a to b, but he doesn't develop the characters. They never sit down and have a bit of a chat and open up and act like humans.

The only scenes in which Clark opens up is in the flash back scenes. In which he learns a terrible lesson from his dad that sometimes you have to let people die.

He isn't portrayed as the guy from Kansas that wants to make the world better and wants to be a symbol of what we can become. Rather he is portrayed as a godly figure that is burdened by humanity.

That is really the core of what Snyder got wrong about superman, the fact that even though he's godly he's still Clark Kent, the farm boy from Kansas. He's some to live up to, not someone to worship like a god. Superman is a symbol that mankind can shed of it's weakness of absolute power corrupts absolutely. That deep down, people are good.

That's why it's such a sin that Snyder made him into basically a burdened god. If only he can shed the burden of mankind and he could be great. It's such an Aryn Randian Superman. It comes to no surprise that Snyder loves Rand.

>>
>>91517802
Yes, every insurance policy ive ever encountered covers "act of god" which is what this was. Grow up kid, your underage is showing.
>>
>>91518173
He doesn't have time to develop them. WB is clearly pushing a
>rush, rush, rush, reach MCU stage, we want Avengers NOOOOOOOOOOOOOW
schedule.
>>
>>91517944
You are deranged if that is what you are projecting onto that scene. Superman can literally observe every death happening on earth at any moment. He has spent 2 years saving people and averting disasters, being around death is normal for him. In that gif he looks deeply dissapointed that it happened, saddened, and unsure if it was because of his own presence that it happened.
>>
>>91518007
you dont know how physics work, it would have been just as damaging to the truck (ie it wouldnt be in working condiction and would have to be towed)

I guess it would have saved that telephone pole or something.
>>
>>91518285
That's an awfully sociopathic and self-centered way of looking at murder.
Especially for Superman.
>>
>>91517731
he honestly looks like he forgot his line/action and was trying to dramatic pause just long enough to remember it without ruining the take

>>91517704
not directly, but the trucker might well have owned the cab through his own small company

>>91517802
that depends

if you're fully comp then you're covered regardless (as long as the actuaries can't come up with a reasonable explanation of how you did it yourself) but they'd still take a long time deliberating

if you're not fully comp (and most drivers aren't, though truckers may have to be in some places) then they'll just Act of God you unless you bought tornadoes as a policy extra

>>91518007
it would still deform and probably leak fuel - they're not supposed to be upside down, after all

and the insurance would not pay out, because the assumption would be that the driver flipped it
>>
>>91514352
>implying this isn't a good scene
Look at how sad he is.
>>
>>91518240
>out of two atypically-long movies
>both about Superman
>about maybe ten minutes max of levity
>>
>>91518257
>daddy buys my insurance for me

c'mon anon

virtually nobody buys fully comp, it's usually more expensive than replacing the vehicle every couple of years

roadworthy doesn't have to be expensive
>>
>>91514086
>another anti-DCEU thread
Pathetic.
>>
>>91518437
Instead of being spoonfed, why not just watch the movie?
>>
>>91518477
I watched both of them.
You pretty much covered it.
Aside from, imo, the last scenes in Man Of Steel, that's pretty much all the levity that these films have to offer

That's what Goyer and Snyder think of the character, they're not even hiding it.
They see him as a big, boring, idiot in a brightly colored clown suit parroting about truth, justice and other empty crap and lacking significant character or flaws outside biblical references that can be squeezed from him.

Before you start barking at me, that is now what I think of Clark at all. I'm just stating the obvious since you're pretending not to see it. Whatever "kino" Snyder makes of the movies he's clearly not thrilled writing him. The kind of movie Zack wants to write and direct, the exact movie he made before MoS was Sucker Punch, the kind of movie Goyer wants to write and direct is Blade Trinity.

>But Watchmen! But Batman Begins!
Other people involved, other people's work. Standalone you see them for what they are.
Shit just read Goyer's 2014 comment on the creation of She-Hulk and other genius remarks from the two.

It doesn't matter what you, me, Cavill, the people on set or anyone want. Hell it doesn't even matter what they want, Goyer and Snyder were behind WB's most successful films so they're put on all future big projects and get carte blanche..
>>
>>91518746
Wow, you REALLY missed the point of BvS.
>>
>>91514352
"Smells like pee and dead cripple in here."
>>
>>91515655
you'd think the fights would look better if that were true
>>
>>91518240
I don't think you understand the idea of levity. In the first scene everyone is still terrified of Superman and he contributes to it by snapping out of cuffs and saying "there's nothing you can do".
In the third scene, while she's in the bathroom they're discussing murder and being framed and having public opinion against them.

I'll give you the flight scene but Cavill did not really contribute much to it; it easily could've been made with a stuntman or hell, a CG model. His abilities as an actor don't influence it.
>>
>>91517061
>Trying his hardest to be a force for good when he is basically a god with a human psyche
>Literally every human in the world sees him as a threat and he isn't appreciated until he fucking dies, but spends the whole movie selflessly saving anyone anyway
But yeah hey he should just be a dipshit with a grin on his face and a thumb up his ass, what's better to wear around than a smile :-D
>>
>>91520757
>>Trying his hardest to be a force for good
His hardest wasn't very good, all things considered. Without even going into the fact that he should've prevented the explosion in his hearing with, well, his super hearing, there are little jewels like when he allows a crew of Lex's goons to cruise around Gotham (Or was it Metropolis? Eh, they're right next to each other) with a truck and a fucking rocket launcher, because he wanted to deliver an ultimatum to Batman.
>>
>>91514086
Because the Nolan movies were successful and well liked, and studio execs have a hard time breaking from formula.
>>
>>91514086
Because Snyder doesn't understand that Superman is a charming boyscout who swoops in at light speed to save the day with a smile on his face.

>>
>>91522352
it depends on the actor. But usually a good/experienced actor will go full ham when faced with bad direction.
>>
>>91522481
Yeah, precisely. Sometimes, even when dealing with a bad or inexperienced director, you can get a great performance from an actor that really, REALLY got into his character for whatever reason.

Not talking shit about Cavill here, by the way, just talking about a point.

>>91514086
there are brief moments where he's happy, but mostly he just looks stoic.

>>91522747
Huge Jackedman always pulled a good Wolverine, and could always somehow sell his viciousness, no matter how flat or badly made the CGI was in any given scene.

Joel Kinnaman does good acting work in terrible movies, especially in new-Robocop.

And, honestly? I'm the biggest Snyder critic, but I have to say Ben Affleck in BvS. I mean, now it's pretty obvious that he was using some of his inner demons, but it worked.
>>
>>91514086
I don't think Cavill's a good actor, but even if he was they're not giving him much to work with. He was less a character and more a plot point in BvS.
>>
Is DCEU Superman autistic?

>>91525522

The problem is that he's just too formal.
