I fucking hated the double twist. Finding out he was telling the truth was fucking cool, finding out that he was just lying was dumb. Hell, imagine if it was all lie and he disfigured himself on purpose, that would have made him terrifying.

Plus they never really countered his points themselves, they just discredited him. He was cool villain but they made the mistake of making the issue morally grey but acting like it was black and white.

Every cartoon show ever produced always had original concept art and original scripts which later got modified for the final product. Often times those original ideas ended up being far better and more loyal to the source material's vision than the horribly butchered final product.

There were a lot shit moments like these in the show. One of the biggest ones in my opinion was in season 2 when Korra chased down that guy who sentenced her dad turning out to be in league with Palpatine. Imagine what a potentially great character moment it might have been. Korra might have had to accept that she was wrong and acting recklessly and learned from it. Or it could have been a call to fight the justice system on a deeper level and make her fight for lasting change. Instead anyone who is against Korra is just cartoonishly villainous and she can do no wrong.

They had plenty of tech that ran without the need of benders. Even if lightning bending was somehow cost effective compared to regular production, there's no fucking way they could have developed that level of tech without figuring out how to produce electricity without benders. They'd be completely retarded not to have redundancies in case of strikes or diseases that affected the lightning benders.

I don't know if OP is joking or what but the "original" Book 1 of LOK was mostly the same, the big changes iirc had to do with Asami and how they changed her from a villain to a good guy.

Also, back when they thought they'd only have one book, Asami was going to run off and joing the United Forces. They were going to set up Iroh ll/Asami until they realized he's in his 30s.
