Hard Mode: No Invader Zim, No Adventure Time

>Rose Quartz and the Crystal Gems are the Gem equivalent of war criminals with Rose herself killing a high ranking government official

>It's heavily implied that in the final episode of the orignial Tom and Jerry cartoon, that Tom and Jerry kill themselves (pic related)

>The PPG accidentally create a deformed, mentally retarded, bastard offspring who eventually dies in a horrific explosion

In fairness, both shows were intended to be darker than the usual fare.

That said, there were episodes that pushed the boundries quite a bit even for those shows

In CatDog, Cat got all bloody and transformed into a bloody Cat and started cleaning Dog's teeth so his teeth can get clean. Apparently, he has a lot of blood under his skin.

Also, the greaser dogs literally make CatDog's life a living hell, even though CatDog moves on with their life. Winslow also trys to make Cat suffer and feel like a loser who is never going to get anywhere in life.

Also that one episode where Dog buys Little Cat and harasses Cat to the point where he gets very uncomfortable and wants to leave Dog forever.

I distinctly remember my elementary school showing us that episode, and how it was one of the first times I ever contemplated my own death and the death of people around me.
I think it was the way the girl was presented as just a regular kid that you didn't see anything wrong with, and all of the sudden her dying is a very real possibility. She might die and there's nothing you can do to stop it. When I started applying that to myself and people I knew as a kid, I freaked.

I actually blocked it out growing up, it wasn't until high school that I was reminded of it in passing and I remembered everything

Yeah, when the showrunner (now working on King Julien for netflix) says he's going to make the show more like Mystery Inc, I get the feeling he means like the first season but all I can think of is the cosmic scale everything hitting the wall last season.

Not overly dark, but when this cunt ordered a squad of her sentient spider soldiers to kill themselves just to prove a point, it showed that Lego really was loosening up their family-friendly policies.

Though they survived according to the novelization, the movie cut that part.

Personally I always thought that hey Arnold was seriously fucked up. Not necessarily dark, but seriously fucked up.
>>
>>91516805
He actually is more of a serial killer-type person, at least IMO. Complete with the common pattern of emergent serial murderers (starting on pets and small animals, working himself up to someone close to him, and then spiraling out to targeting random strangers who fit his fetish criteria)
>>
>>91551270

It's less fucked up and more brutally honest. Not a lot of shows would have the balls to have their christmas story be about someone trying to reunite a war-torn family.
>>
>>91551461

It had a lot of great moments, but some of it was just wrong. Helga and her stalker shrine and all dialog related to it were just fucking wrong.

>>
>>91551557
I think that was the point, remember, her parents practically ignored her in her early childhood, giving all the attention to her older sister. Arnold was the first person to actually show her attention and her obsession with him is because of all of that.
>>
>>91551678

Even though I can understand it, I still think it's fucked up. Never really got it as a Kid, but when I went back and tried watching them again in colledge some of her lines made me ill. I could not believe they'd let that shit on the air in a kids show.
