I think many series like Gwenpool can be the slice-of-life equivalent of action/superheroes/etc. There isn't an overarching plot like in, say, Lord of the Rings ("get the One Ring to Mordor so it can be destroyed and defeat Sauron) or the first Avatar series ("stop the Fire Nation's conquest of the world"), where you can easily determine the difference between plot-relevant (the episodes where Aang learns the other forms of bending) and filler (The Great Divide).

This is more like - for better or worse - stuff like the second Avatar series, in which there might be a short-term arc - pro-equality movement, etc - but the various arcs do not connect.

If you were to cut out all the filler from Gwenpool, then at best you have the first two establishing issues, the MODOK employment issues (and Doctor Strange), and then the alien/Doombot arc.

Yeah I think this series which began and maintained its entertainment is starting to get a little bit tired. Irreverent humor in story telling only lasts so long before it stagnates.

This was an awful issue. The art was obviously bad but Hastibgs didn't hold up on his end either.
I liked Gwenpool at first but the longer this series goes the more it wears on me. The Howard the Duck back ups were a lot stronger than the main series from the start and now it isn't even fun anymore.

Oh for sure. Most indie artists, especially these ones coming from the webcomic scene, are fucking horrible at hitting deadlines and the second they're given one, end up turning in rushed garbage. You see it all the time with their type. Too used to working on their own schedules or being able to just go "eh, sorry, no issue today because I wasn't feeling great :^)" or "the issue is going to go up later than usual today folks!" and then having an uncolored pencils only copy going up at the end of the day and the colored version getting updated later.

Put them in the grinder of corporate-owned comics where you have deadlines you have to hit and they're not generous, and they fall apart. Considering how many times Marvel has seen this though, you'd think they'd stay away from those types of artists but I guess they're probably cheap.

Last couple of issues were great because Gwen got to go crazy in Arcade's game, and her meta knowledge was able to help.

I feel like they missed a good opportunity for Gwen to just go wild. Having her get caught in a four-way war between her, Kate, Robbie and the dwarves would have been great.

You know, Gurihiru is coming back in issue 19? It's been alternating between Gurihiru-done main arc followed by short fill-in artist (usually bad) then back to Gurihiru. This and the next issue are fill-in artist filler, then Gurihiru will be back for the whole Gwen meets her 616 parents and dealing with her comic knowledge becoming outdated and irrelevant.

My dream ending would be for her to end up choosing to apprentice under another hero, as a sidekick. She's be able to learn more about being a hero, and it would continue the plot about her learning to see those around her as actual people. She loses story focus and doesn't get shown much, but we know that she's following her dream and getting better and better as a person.

This girl really needs other people bounce off of, and I think being a sidekick would help.
