I hated Chris a bit less when, years later, I realized I would be acting exactly like him if I were in the same situation. That said he didn't need so much focus, he should've just shown up whenever Sonic went back to the house.

This is my favorite cutscene in the entire franchise and at this point, I doubt they will ever top it. Eggman is a toptier villain once he stops fucking around.

By S3, he's literally an adult in a child's body. He contributes to the plot, and isn't the focus of every other scene.

The problem with Chris in the other seasons is that:
1) He's the child surrogate character. If you've been waiting for a Sonic show, you're not really interested in watching a insert-character here. The problem with most insert characters in shows like these are that either they've going to fall into various show-ruining archtypes. A character with no powers that all of the other characters have to slow down for, or the character will have some sort of new power that will make them more useful than the characters you want to see.
Chris falls into the first
2) Chris isn't really that interesting or entertaining. Characters like Chris aren't really made to be all that unique. But he's the surrogate character, so he needs to have a connection with Sonic

It's hard to care about Chris talking about how lonely he is when he has a lot going on for him, so when he's moaning on about his problems, all you can think about is all the shit that's stacked in his favor.

Wheelchair girl being the main human of Sonic X would have been way better.

The episode where he told the president to fuck off because he promised to hang out with her is one of the better ones.

Also any epsiode where he raced the F1 guy.
