Why are comics shoehorning characters in now for the sake of "diversity"? Don't Marvel and DC realize their attempts come off as lazy and obvious pandering?

But /co/ is here to vitch about it, regardless.

Can't you get it through your thick skull that maybe people DON'T want disgusting mentally ill men who think they're women in our comics?

Besides, it's kind of fucked up if you think about it. Comics are for children, and attempting to normalize a mental illness that is also a sexual fetish for all intents and purposes (AGP), it makes you wonder exactly what DC's and Marvel's agenda is.

And besides, a Tranny bio-weapons expert? Every tranny I've ever known is either in porn or a high school drop out that is too obsessed with themselves to put out any effort in life.

But of course, it's everyone else that's the problem.

Because Hollywood has realised that films starring people of different ethnicities, women etc and are tripping over themselves to catch up. yes, films with these leads did get made, but they were in a minority.

Comic books these days are little more than concept pitches for films or TV shows.

Ok which covergirl model is the "Who's that girl" pose in panels 2 and 4 copied from.

Other than that using deadname in common speech seems awkward? Seems like 'October" 'Picked it myself you like it." Or something like that would make more sense. Batwoman wasn't questioning their gender just the use of a month as a name.

This is the exact shit that was in Mass Effect: Andromeda, a game where the developers weren't subtle about their agenda

The first time the main character meets this tranny NPC, they just happen to drop that he used to be a man named Stephan; but changed his name to "Hainly" because it "Feels good. Feels right."

If I had known the future would be full of homosexual fetishists, I would have necked myself in the womb.
>>
>>91433330
I feel like you're reading it uncharitably. It's a silly name in comics being pointed out as something they chose rather than just being a coincidence while also providing a reason for why the name was willingly changed. And it serves a purpose because if you as a reader don't get a reason you assume it's a fake name and they're someone important and you try to start finding a mystery where one doesn't exist.

An insect alien wouldn't have a deadname. The whole point of deadname is to passive-aggressively communicate to everyone that you hated being a man and your life before taking hormones doesn't exist anymore. An insect alien wouldn't need to do that for his pupal stage since it'd be natural and not a mental illness.

Deadname isn't subtle. It only has one meaning. Just because you didn't know what it meant doesn't mean it's not a big blinking light to "Look at me I'm trans."

It's not a word people would use in casual conversation. It's usually used after you've offended someone. The writer could have worded that sentence better and still laid the seeds of curiosity about what the name change was for, had the weird pupal line and maybe brought it up later when the readers got to know the character better.

You sure it had no influence? This is cape books. Cape books are severely littered with terrible, unrealistic and hamfisted sbitty writing, and yet I see /co/ bitch about those maybe half the time. If it's paired with tranny or diversity stuff though, it's bitched about 100% of the time.

>You sure it had no influence?
For me? No. For the person who posted it here so it got my attention? Yeah.

I regularly complain about this kind of writing. It stands out more because you get "journalists" writing article after article praising this garbage based purely on the color/sex/sexuality of the character. You have artists and colorists literally shitting on the page, writers that don't know how to pace or write dialogue and half of them were probably hired because they have the right labels for the book. America's team being all hispanic wasn't a coincidence.

It's way more prevalent in Marvel though that's a fact.

Your pic related, America, Squirrel Girl, Hellcat, Mockingbird, Wasp. These books had the subtly of a dog trying to hide behind a curtain.

My pic, for example. I read this comic. I genuinely like the character but seeing this ahead of time made me not buy the issue. It's a guest writer though so the rest of the comic isn't like this. I defend it all the time. It's nearly impossible to get people here to look past this 1/3 of an issue.

Being this destructive helps me focus on being better than them and work on my own stuff.
>>
>>91447061
My post was more an observation on /co/ habit but apparently I conflated it with you too. It just pains me to see garbage being posted in threads without being called out on just because it's hype or beloved characters. Cape books have such cringey writing so often, and I can't understand why the same terrible hamfisted plot and writing choices keep cropping up.

The fact that it's only when it shows up alongside diversity stuff that /co/ shits on it for its "bad writing", looks awfully suspicious. The bad writing is a good excuse to default on when it's something else they're after. I'm not even saying this to defend trannies either, it's the bullshit thinly veiled agendas that piss me off.
>>
>>91447654
Call it out? That's the best you can do.

I don't know about everyone but I end up coming here to complain about this stuff because it's anonymous. You can complain about Batman openly, but you complain about this kind of thing or people call you phobic. Even if your point has nothing to do with politics.

Even if no one reads it and it never amounts to anything I feel better and can get on without the distraction of composing arguments in my head.

Because nobody with a creative idea in their head wants to work for DC and Marvel, since it means any good idea or good story they tell will belong to DC or Marvel and if it gets popular it'll be whored out to infinity and they'll never see a real profit from it.

So the people who work in the industry are the people who are either too stupid to try to do it on their own or who lack any real creativity for the medium. That's 95% of the people. So you've got a bunch of uncreative and stupid people trying to tell stories that people want to read so rather than craft something they pick hot topics and base their stories around them.

Because it's not like anyone in 2017 has access to a smartphone/the internet and can just pop an odd sounding term like Deadname into a search query and find out what it means in literally 2 seconds or anything.
>>
>>91448910

Most people can't even bother to look up basic info on wikipedia.

And that Quran bit was something the artist was caught posting on his Facebook page and being smug about it. It literally would have made no sense to most people if you didn't know the political context to it, even if they had bothered to google it instead of going "that's a weird shirt logo".
>>
>>91448439
>>91448420
This makes more sense if you realize the character is under a lot of stress and being irrational. It's not really that she's mad about the gender shit but she doesn't want to have a kid but the other chick does. So if you're mad an irrational person acts irrational...

There's far more aggressively stupid shit in this book where she goes off on strangers about homeless people then some guy( penguin got laid supposedly) comes up to her and praises her for doing so.

There's "ALM" on another guy's shirt too, should we google that?

No one just goes "oh, by the way, I transitioned and changed my name!" to strangers.

You do realise your sperging about this is why they feel emboldened to do this shit, right?

Every time someone REEEEs about a tranny being in a comic, the writer just feels justified in standing up to their "caveman" thinking.

Ignore it, stop making a fuss out of it and you take away it's punch.

Really, ultimately I don't give a toss if trans characters are in comics. Transgender people exist, so I'm not going to start autisticly screeching if one appears in my funny books, and I'm certainly not going to double down on that if said comic shows them in a positive light. Because lets get real, what OP and a number of people in this thread want out of trans characters in comics is a comic absolutely taking the piss out of them so they can circle jerk about how "based" the writer is, no matter how hamfisted it might be.

I just don't get the outrage really. We here on 4chan laugh at Tumblr about how OFFENDED and TRIGGERED they get about everything, but the moment something like this comes out people sure do get mighty offended and triggered here.

I just don't care enough about trans people to get so OUTRAGED by a background character to be honest with you.

They're women.

Women written to be empowering triggers the fuck out of /co/

People will say it's because of the shitty writing, and they are written poorly,
but /co/ would hate it anyway even if it were well writen because "feminist propaganda"

Herd mentality. "Us vs Them" and bitching about others like tumblr and leddit feels good. Really though, it's just three communities of bored young people who fall into one of three camps:
1. Angry girls screeching about moral superiority to feel better about themselves
2. Angry boys who contrarian and edge and trigger to feel better about themselves
3. Actual mentally deficient retards

I mean I already made that joke. The truth of the matter is I'm a chick that likes reading lighter fair books and these are my choices.

And they suck. Spider-Gwen isn't bad I just hate it for some reason.

Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane, Runaways, Ms Marvel, Avengers Academy, Marvel Adventures books (Chat best girl). Gotham Academy, Faith, New Mutants/New X-men could keep going back in comic history.

A lot of these approached these topics with more nuance. They have female characters that have stories and arcs that don't revolved around proving to men how powerful they are. They let you get to know characters before they have them shout out their orientations. The characters have different voice other that super quirky.

Add Champions to the shit pile. They're basically retelling a Ms Marvel story making it 6 times more obnoxious because all the characters have the same voice. Except Viv is a little roboty about it.

Being honest though Squirrel Girl is in there because the artist is such utter trash at making comics I sperg every time. I don't even know what most of the issues are about because I can't stop getting angry at the art. I can do better and I don't think I'm ready for professional work.
>>
>>91433446
It's less pushing an agenda and more trying to pander. It is still the hip thing to drum up controversy to get people talking about your product. Comics do it all the time. Games do it a little less but it's usually for the same reasons: political or pandering.

The Andromeda issue is nothing new in an adventure game with no depth. Characters you only see once will tell you their whole life story and then you move on. Except trannies aren't like that. If they pass they usually don't reveal they used to have a dick until they trust someone explicitly. So for STRAIGHT WHITE MALE writers, it's a catch 22 they inevitably fall into, because like for the last twenty years all new black characters have a background involving street crime, these writers have done the bare minimum of research or just use stereotypes so they can pander with minimum effort.

Take for example Fearless Defenders.

Set up: Valkyrie needs to form a team of women to stop some bad shit because only women can use the powers. Reasonable in universe set up for an all female team book.

What did we get? Male superheros complaining about the woman making teams. "Misandry" getting dropped in twice. Cockblocking lesbians.

This pose from Will Sliney over and over.

I bought this thing with every hope it would be good because I like Moonstar. I think I stopped buying it at 9 issues.

These are comics. What if the character was literally some sort of vampire? Their "deadname" was from before they were turned, in some sort of ironic usage of the term. Having an evil lair, being around a long while, that could all (just from this page, at least) be thought of as some sort of undead monster from the context.
>>
>>91458955
I mean if you want to argue fantasy they could be a fucking pony from the horse dimension. You know it's not true and only a short trip to google would explain it if you never heard the word.

The fact of the matter is this character appeared for a handful of pages and they wanted to make it very clear they were trans. They haven't showed up in any books since.

Go look the character up. Look at the articles about this little handout. It's sad how they're eating this up.

I know i'm late but, this is pretty much the opposit of what happens in Andromeda, Bats know this person when she was a male, so the answers actually fit, in Andromeda it makes zero sense in several different ways.
Its almost comical, like most of Andromeda.

The rest of us are too busy enjoying our comics to cry about a fictional person being trans.

Makes me think of aboriginals not getting a real name until adulthood, at which point they choose it themselves.

On the subject of trannies, though, I don't really understand why they get so upset over names and pronouns. The way I see it, it shouldn't matter as long as you're happy with yourself. I get called "miss" by this asshole at the McDonald's down the road, but that's only mildly insulting at best. Why care so much about how other's percieve you?

I can't get over how tiny that foreshortened forearm is. It's like a gross shriveled t-rex arm. I can't believe, considering how many decent artists are trying so hard to break in, how we can still see terrible drawings like this on display.
>>
>>91463574
Not to sound transphobic either but I think it has something to do with it being a huge part of who they are. Even when I'm referred to as the opposite gender it doesn't really matter to me because that part of me isn't something I personally care about. I never stop to think 'wow I'm a girl, look at me! It's who I am!' For them I think it just comes with a lot of anxiety and is a core part of their identity. Otherwise they probably won't have gone out of their way to change it.

Different things matter more to different people I suppose.
>>
>>91463574
>I don't really understand why they get so upset over names and pronouns.
Regular people get triggered over this when it happens only occasionally. Like a relative of mine gets so upset whenever people think she's a man because of her short bob hairstyle. She's also in her 50s so aging has done its thing and it's not helping. She'll whine about it and get frustrated for nearly hour each time. Imagine having to deal with it every day.
