What does the neon 80 look have to do with Thor or Ragnarok storyline?

I know GoTG made bank, but Thor is already established on the MCU why the third part is lol 80s neon? Makes no sense. Maybe if he travelled back in time or some shit.

I had no hopes for Thor at all, but the trailer got me hyped as he'll, I like my comics and comic movies to be fun and full of action, but I guess I am the minority

Well, that was... different. Huh. I disliked both the first two Thor movies, but this may actually be something I'm interested in. I also like how they kept the humor to a minimum. At least in the trailer.

I feel like they're going for a Heavy Metal kinda approach.

Like, the other Thor movies tried to be fantasy films, but didn't commit, so they were kinda middling and boring.
Now it's fully embracing the fact that it's about a space viking soaring through the cosmos to battle the queen of the underworld.
