Jack has had three goals ever since the start of the show:

Jack immediately going back on his "our choices led us here" speech really soured the whole tone. He's been wrestling with the idea of killing them ever since he realized they were human. On the surface he seemingly convinced himself that they made the choice and he's not at fault for killing them in self-defense, but this episode spent a significant amount of time exploring that deep down Jack hasn't actually convinced himself of this at all and still isn't comfortable with what he had to do.

Once he made one of them harmless he had less justification to outright kill her and started trying to get through to her instead. It's not that he suddenly doesn't want to kill, it's that he never wanted to in the first place and now he's in a position where he has more of a choice.

Why was Episode XCV rated TV-14 DLV?

The first three episodes have all been TV-14 for Violence only. I guess I can understand suggestive Dialogue, but the worst piece of Language I heard was scum.
