I always saw Scar as the "White Wolf" of Lion King (gotta sneak in that Black Pantehr reference). Kinda like the adopted white kid that the King found when his Rich Safari-Going parents died hunting. Or at least the "lighter-brown" one. He needs to look a bit more distinct than all the other characters, and since everyone else is black as hell, I always pinned Scar as the "weird" one. He could even be an albino. Dunno. But he was always different in my mind.

Well Cave Lions are a prehistoric population of Lions or Lion Subspecies, so unless this took place in the Ice-Age, I don't think Scar could be a cave lion.

The idea of "black" is bullshit in the first place. There's more genetic variance among the african population than there is among europeans. If you look hard enough you can find populations of people with all sorts of combinations of features that are assumed to be separated by race.

If you use "black" to refer to african-americans it's more meaningful, since they're mostly a specific subrace drawn from a specific geographical genetic source and then deliberately bred for traits by slave owners, which shallowed their gene pool. Point is, half of white americans are probably more closely related to black americans than black americans are to some "black" africans.

Besides, when people say "black" or "white" on the internet, most of the time they think of those terms in a specific american context, and then apply their thinking to the rest of the world because things aren't really going to be different outside of america, right??? Which is very annoying.

As a little kid I do remember thinking his design was "racist" before I even really knew that word or what actual racism was.

Like just finding it weird that he looked different from every other character in every way despite being Mufasa's brother and the same species. I know that's common for Disney villains but most characters being lions too, with pretty similar colors and designs, makes it stand out more.

Realistically though, he and every character would probably be black. If you're just going by voice then he wouldn't even be the only white guy.
